Mission upgrades?

I was under the impression that, when your rep with a faction has gone up, they offered you better misssions. Yet I'm allied with a couple of factions on my current trading route (due to trading, not to doing missions), and the missions they are offering me are still low-value and pointless.

Does this ever change?

In my experience, yes. I have had a couple of Gold courier runs for upwards of 150k profit each.

The better missions do open up, but they are more infrequent than the lower-end missions, which will still be there. The number of missions on offer on the BB scales up with the system's population, but I'm not certain if system wealth has an effect on the availability of the missions which pay better, but I have a feeling it does, based on what I've seen.
