Mission Variety

Hello everyone!

Just a thought I've been having about this most excellent game (And I'm hoping maybe a few other people have thought the same) is there should be more variety to the missions available. As far as I can tell the missions are:
  • Shoot someone / some people.
  • Take something to someone.
  • Get something for here.
I would really like to see a bit more variety. Just having a ponder it didn't take me long to think of some others that might be fun and a little more varied. Like for example:
  • Spacestation under attack, Defend
  • Spacestation has leaking toxic waste cannisters around it, destroy or collect
  • Escort trade vessel and defend attacks when interdicted
  • Escort a mining run and defend mining vessel
  • Take fuel to a stranded vessel
  • Blow up asteroid from the inside (some kind of hollow super huge asteroid requiring pilot skill)

After this I thought there could be a couple of features added to the game in order for other missions to become available. If some kind of repair gun / drone / laser / arm type thing was implemented then you could have repair and hack missions:
  • Repair space station
  • Hack space station and steal data
  • Repair damaged capital ship
  • Hack capital ship

A grapple hook / tractor beam / tug drone used as a missile lock but then used to pull items would mean you could have:
  • Rescue stranded ship and return it to station
  • Pull asteroids away from collision trajectory of a station or planet
  • Move space junk in a busy sector after a big fight

These are just a couple I came up with and would be quite simple to fit into the procedural nature of the game. If anyone can think of any more then post below! I'd love to hear other people's ideas. It would be even more awesome to see some of these ideas actually become missions in the game. :rolleyes:
 
Better missions is what I mostly want from this game right now, so I hope we'll soon see some of those.

These are bit more far fetched ideas... for future years.

I wish we will get gigantic military bases (they gotta have bases for those capital ships somewhere) and ship manufacturing sites in the space later in game.
Those would be more interesting sites for stealth hacking runs.

Military carrier ships that we could dock into, once we get high enough military rank.

Secret bases in asteroid fields (disguised as being asteroids), but following traffic and close examimation will reveal those.

New type of space habitats in lagrange points.

Gigantic ringworlds or Dyson spheres. If too advanced to be humanmade, perhaps traces of ancient race somewhere far from habitated space.

Ancient ruins on some planets, perhaps ancient space teleport rings (wormholes) floating somewhere that could work, or not.

Alien artifacts that could give you special equipment if you manage to deliver them first into hard to find research laboratories, resulting technology to use in your ship. If nothing else, at least coloured laser beams or something :)

Space elevators reaching planet orbits or whole planets covered by domes (to prevent athosphere escaping or something), like in 1979 Gigantic Comic.

Those generation ships we were hinted about on original Elite manual. Somewhere near Sol system, on their way into nearby stars. Perhaps rescue mission to deliver food (or tow it into space station if we get ship towing business sometimes, or transfer people into elsewhere once we get passenger ships).

Space chases from system to system like the Conctrictor mission in original Elite. We have those wake scanners but no use for them.

Great ideas! Keep them coming! I thought of a couple of other scenarios:

-clear mines from an asteroid belt before a convoy gets there
-escort a funeral convoy of space mafia
