Mission was achievable, so I accepted it. Then was no longer achievable.

So I picked up a quest, simple delivery of something to a certain system. No problem. I checked out the system, it was 2 jumps away. But when I accepted the cargo added weight and the system was no longer in range. There was no route I could take that would get me there.

I can see this coming up often, how do you guys deal with missions like this? The game doesn't warn us if accepting the mission will no longer make the route to complete it possible. It only tells us what's in range at that exact point in time.

I could have sold my lasers and reduced weight, but the reward for completing the mission would have come to about 4 times less than re-buying the lasers. It would have been a huge loss.

as there is a part of missions you can see but can't take, I'd ticket it as a bug, as it shouldn't be achievable... mpov

Sounds like the missions calculation for whether its achievable is worked out on your ships current mass. I would ticket this as a bug as any mission that adds cargo to your hold should be calculated by adding its weight to your current. Likely a fringe case, but as you have found out, it does happen.

It's actually possible that by losing some of your fuel weight (jumping back and forth from system to system a few times) you could have made the jumps required. Even if that were the case, i'd still ticket it as that isn't particularly intuitive.

I think you will get full price when you sell your lasers so that is a wash. The only problem is if you need them to fight on the way.

When using the Galaxy Map to plot routes (Navigation tab), there is a mass indicator with a slider you can use to plot routes for empty/full/part full loads - comes in handy for avoiding these situations.

Edit for typo's
