Missions - Has anyone every been given a folllow on mission that is not a surface scan?

I currently have 6 follow on missions which are all surface scan missions. These all follow either cargo or data deliveries. It is slightly annoying as there does not seem to be a way to dismiss them, and they are all in an area where the giving faction is also has system control in the area (so because of the silly way these mission work they pay you to attack there own facilities and then make you an outlaw for doing the mission).

The only other follow on I have seen if where a faction messes up an assassination target, and I have seem one of those in ages.

I get surface scans SUPER rarely, maybe once or twice, ever. I usually get assassinations. I do a lot of surface scans in general, so I guess that might not be the contributing factor...

If I do a data delivery, I get an assassination. If I do an assassination I get another assassination. I think ONCE, I got a delivery mission (3t of something for the same price as 180t of the same, was nice, I did it in the courier just because I could lol.

Yes. I almost never get surface scan add on mission because I don’t do them. Not since they stripped the faction and status from skimmers.

I only get the assassination one. Guess it depends on what you do?

This.

Chain missions usually involve similar/related mission-types.

If I do a bunch of "fetch" missions, I'll probably get a chain-missions to deliver stuff that's been manufactured using the components I delivered.
If I do BHing missions, the chain-mission will probably be a "pirate lord" assassination.
Etc.

Yes. I frequently get cargo delivery missions as follow-ons, usually after credit donations. I had one last night that was 1m credits to deliver 3 tons of biowaste. Expensive crap, that.

I recently got a follow-up on an assassination mission. Interestingly enough, the message I got when I was informed about the second one was along the line "and this time it's the right target".
.
I should've taken a screenshot there.

I think all follow on assassinations are because we killed the wrong target the first time. Every one I've ever had (perhaps 400? Maybe more) said that.

Wait 'til you get 2 or 3 follow-on missions with that flavour text one after the other. [where is it]

If there was a way to assassinate the muppet who gave me the dodgy missions, the faction would have a new boss now.

Hmm. I didn't have that many follow-ups on assassination yet. And i have to admit, rarely do i really read the details when given a follow-up. So i admit, i was amused when i read it. :)

Maybe it's just me, but; It would seem that those missions are dependent on the majority of missions one is doing at the time there offered. Though I only get involved in pew pew sometimes, I've never been offered mission where as I have to do pew pew. If and when I do a lot of scan mission because that seem to be the only thing being offered by the broker's at the time. I'm offered scan missions, and so on and so one in regards to other missions.

I haven't seen a follow-on surface scan in a long time. Maybe it's because I haven't done surface scan missions in a LONG time (I get my data for engineering in other ways). Just this afternoon I completed an assassination mission that was a follow-on to a USS salvage mission.

I must have upset the RND Gods somehow, nearly all my follow-on missions are assassination - an activity I have never attempted (don't even own the thingie you need to interdict someone :D). Which is why they just sit there taking precious space on my mission board :(

For what it's worth, despite the mission briefs that say you should use one, you never need to use an FSD Interdictor to complete those missions. You just scan a nav beacon or use your ADS in the target system to get a target vicinity (usually near a planet or moon), then fly there and begin looking for the mission USS to spawn. You even get a voice notification when that happens. ...and if you don't get a target location when you do an ADS or nav beacon scan, then just hang around in SC and your target will interdict you shortly.

I do get a lot of "kill the pirate lord" missions, but it is random. I don't recall ever seeing a surface scan one; if they happen to me, it's very rare.

I have noticed these follow-on missions do change from place to place. I managed to get four simultaneous follow-on mission tickets with my favourite faction a couple of days ago. At their main station, two were assassinate pirate lord, two were the mini-cargo-run types mentioned by Aashenfox above. I was busy doing other stuff and didn't take any of them. I went to another station they were present at, and again four follow-ups were offered, again two were assassinate, two were mini-cargo - only this time, they were in a different order. Still busy, still didn;t take them - went back to the first station, and the four tickets were showing just as they were before, in the same order as first time.

So, if you don't like the option given and it's a multi-system or multi-asset faction, simply fly to another system where that faction is present and check what the option is there. Chances are, it'll be different.

Plenty. Usually "Kill Pirate Lord", "Deliver Cargo (manufactured from delivered goods/donation)", surface scan. That's about it though. Maybe the odd data courier.

I can't remember because none of them ever seem to be suited for what I'm kitted for, well-paying, or indeed even remotely related to the last mission, so I've ignored them almost since the beginning.

factors that impact follow on mission type = your reputation, system industry, faction type and faction state. though the options from these aren't terribly varied. i would classify this feature as work in progress.

because of my playstyle the types I always see are assassination missions (from black box recovery), delivery missions (from providing donations) and salvage recovery (from data delivery).
