Missions. I just dont understand

For example. they need 4 coffee. I check all the star systems around! I cant find it anywhere how do you know where to go for what the quest is asking? I go to the map that shows all the biggest trade. I go to the one that has the most food coming out of it and no cofee! is this game all about just warping back and forth.. seriously thats all i feel that I do. Just warp warp warp warp. nothing else.

I had such a mission last night for some electronic components so allow me to give you some advice.

  • First open the Galactic map.
  • Next click on the tab that shows the trade routes.
  • Unselect everything so it just shows planets and jump routes.
  • Next open the trade listings and tick only the topic section (I am at work so this is from memory) and the commodity you want. For you and coffee IIRC that would be the Food heading and inside (expand the list) just coffee.
  • Then if there are any star systems nearby the route will show on the map by the glowing lines.
  • Visit each planet and dock at the station - there maybe more than 1 in the system so you might have to visit them all.
I was lucky in that the neighboring system had 3 units for sale but I needed 9 : checking the map showed another system exporting the components close by so I made my way over.

End result I had what I needed - mission time allowed was 7 hours and I think it took around 40 minutes.

I just don't see any objective to the game besides transporting goods, and shooting down a wanted person here and there. there is no chat. I barely see any PVP. nobody talks. its a big bore! think I wasted my money.

Its NOT a game. Its a Beta. Many feature and much content are not in the Beta. That stuff will be in the Gamma.

Galaxy Map, select ONLY Coffee and go get it.
Remember Missions can be cancelled.
I take the one that give more money, but some times I just fly to another systems without nothing because In me there is the needs of exploration. :D

I'm someone who enjoys the missions and trading.

Sometimes for the "Bring me X amount of X" you can find the product at the next system beside you. Sometimes you have to travel to two or three (or even four) systems to find the full amount you need.

The good thing is that you nearly always have hours in which to complete it so even if you get to one system to find they only have one item for sale you still have plenty of time to jump around until you have them all. I've not failed one because of the time limit although I have starting creeping towards the limit a few times.

Once I had a Cobra with upgraded power unit these missions became much easier. The jump range is enough that I could quickly jump large distances in one go to get where I needed.

I think this is just awesome. Finally a game that doesn't take your hand and tell you where to go etc ..

For once, you have to find it by yourself, and actually PLAY a game as you want instead of following dev scripts. But I can't understand the frustrations of this kind of missions though ^^.

You can get it, but in ED it is a little more Complecated:
YOU must fist check what Kind of Stuff the Station in General want in Deliver Mission ... lets say Bier/Wine/Tea for the Workers.
Next step is where to get ... if you fly around you will find a station where you get Beer/Wine/Tea.
All that you must write down manually, or if you can manage it in Your mind..
Mostly you get hours of time to fullfill, so if you reall must fly farer then to Systems you have enough Time.
Again YOU learn how to handle this Mission ... not Your ship/Computer.
In the begining the Transport/Post Mission easier, and also you can check out what the other Stations selling.....

Best idea if you want to do Mission like that. When you look at common item like coffee. Write down the location when you see it you can look it up.

maybe it's not for you then? I'm not sure why people are buying the beta when they clearly don't like this type of game at all?

agh the game isn't holding my hand and doesn't have a linear corridor plot = bad? not for me!

Instead of trying to gathers as much money as quickly as possible, take your time and enjoy the views and audio of the game. Try to experience the approach to a station, the feeling of flying so close to a star you can see its surface details, imagine that your really sitting there in that little spaceship all alone out in the cold dark space.

Instead of "wasting time" try to "spend time" and just enjoy it.

Granted, if this is not something you can/will do and you think playing without a set obvious goal is a waste of time, then yes you might sadly have wasted your money.
But before reaching that conclusion, give the game a few more tries and approach it differently, maybe youll get at least some of that moneys worth.

Spend time knowing your surrounding systems and what they buy and sell. Do yourself a personal fact finding mission and explore a bit before committing to anything major.

Shok.

I know which of my home systems stocks coffee and when i see a mission that requires it i just go and get it from next door. Plus a bit more coffee because the mission will come up again. And if the commodity prices are right i might just do a straight trade. Or i might not because something else might pay better. Just requires a little bit of thought and judgement, some patience and a bit of skill.... If you dont give it that then you miss the point of the game. Whether it is trading, bounty hunting, mining, exploring there are not any short cuts and noone is going to hold your hand...

Or try Slopey's market tool... That will tell you what commodities are sold where. It's way more informative than the in-game data sources (but far from 100% reliable), and IMO a valid substitute for the 3300 AD grapevine.
