Missions That Are No More.

I've been doing a lot of missions recently, mostly for ranking up for the Corvette, and mostly for fun.

So I think I've seen all the missions the game has to offer, and I've noticed that quite a few are simply gone, or changed drastically.

First one, is "Fail On Scan" Smuggling.
These were fun, and risky. I have no idea why they have been turned in to "Slap On Wrist On Scan" missions.

Base Assaults are another I don't see. All surface scans are now to those odd little search zones, which provide no challenge or risk, except a botched landing. Lol
It used to be hilarious trying to break in to a high security settlement, and getting railgunned in to orbit.
I do see the occasional destroy the generator mission, but they are sooooo rare.

Surface Salvage/Rescue, where you had to search for the correct POI are also gone, or replaced with a giant "This Way" sign. It used to be fun honing your Mk I eyeball skills.

Kill Pirate missions are still in the game, but quite rare. But they no longer spawn the hilariously large wings they used too.
Back in the day, a kill 10 pirates mission would spawn a wing of 10 pirates.
It always turned out to be a brilliant fight, even if you faced off against 10 sidewinders trying to peck you to death. Lol

IMHO, these harder or more time consuming missions should have never have been removed or changed. If people were asking for easier missions, or complaining about the mechanics, then FD should have created separate versions, with lower rewards, and left the originals how they were.
For example, Smuggling Missions could come in two varieties, "fail on scan", and "lose bonus on scan", detailed in the mission briefing. Then everyone is happy. Lol

What other missions do you miss?
I only joined in 1.4, so I probably didn't even see the very early missions.

The missions I miss the most are the Elite-only 'Obfuscated in the Outer Rim' (which was for Elite Explorers only, there were others for Trade and Combat Elite ranks) that seemed to imply that there could be storyline consequences for completing them. I haven't seen them since 2.0, which is a shame as they also provided an incentive to rank up.
Another mission, or rather a 'wrinkle', that no longer appears is where you would receive a communication from a NPC in supercruise asking you to drop out and talk with them. Sometimes they were just there to shoot you but the interesting wrinkle was the one where they offered you extra money to deliver your cargo to their faction instead. It really helped to give you a sense that the factions you were working for were struggling against each other, even though I only rarely was presented with an argument convincing enough to change sides - more work definitely needed to be done on the reasoning presented to the player other than hard cash, especially as you would take a reputation hit for the faction you originally took the mission from (I believe).
.
FWIW if you miss the 'fail on scan' smuggling missions, then there are passenger missions with that trait - look for 'secretive' passengers (explorer passengers tend to have this trait). It's a shame that cargo smuggling isn't fail on scan at least some of the time - high risk but high reward presents a challenge to the player.
.
I have seen Tip-off missions generate a Base Assault (or rather, ask me to scan a data point in a high security base crawling with skimmers, defense turrets and patrolling ships) but they are rare.
.
There have been hints that 2.4 will see chained missions extended to include more than two parts, so I wonder what other changes might be coming. The mission team can't only be doing bugfixes - it's an area that I think FD want to continuously improve upon.
