Missions to increase local 'faction' rep through kills - can't complete them?

Hi,

Every time I try to do one of the missions to increase my standing with a faction on a system ("Kill 5 pirates for increased rep with the so and so's"), I run into a ship in a signal source which offers me money to not kill the original targets...

but...I want to ignore this offer and continue with my original mission. I can't see how to do so? Aborting aborts the whole mission, whilst on making the kills I couldn't find the option to turn them in on the bulletin board. Am I missing something?

I find this rather frustrating, thanks for any help.

It's a known bug; the only working fix to this is to shot the npc char when he start speaking to you about the mission and before the journal update. After this you run to station, pay the fine then proceed to the mission as usual. In 1.3 seems this will be fixed.
 
But this happens to me every time I take a pirate mission and I'm able to complete the original mission. I have yet to run into this bug. Sometimes, I've seen others complain of this happening to them only for them to realize that they misread the modified transaction screen.
 
As said above, that jerk resets your kill count. You can still finish the original mission, but only do USSs for the first one or two, then move onto an RSS or the nav beacon if there is one to finish the job and avoid another encounter with reset-pants.
 
OK thanks. I met the character first, then went on to kill more than the required pirates but still found no way to hand in the mission it seemed?

No matter, if it going to be fixed in 1.3 (which I see is in Beta) then that's good.
