Horizons Missions to interface with a terminal...how???

I have taken several missions now where you have to interface with a Terminal attached to an Operations terminal and retrieve data.
I can find the Operations Terminal but I can't find any way to interface with it to get the data.

I have the Datalink Scanner on secondary fire and I have set to open hardpoints on fire as I had read somewhere that this was an issue but nothing wants to happen when I hit secondary fire for the datalink scanner... just zero.

I do have the Operations Terminal targetted and I have opened the turret. I can fire at the things but not scan them.

One particular mission I was driving around the base of a bulding that had the Ops terminal on it when big blue text "mission failed" I have no idea what I did wrong as the mission timer still had over 4 hours on it.

This is getting exasperating, I just can't figure out if I'm missing something or if it's just bugged, anyone got any pointers on these missions before I totally throw in the towel?

I last tried it in Beta 5, so this may not work in latest version. But try swapping your data link scanner to primary fire. Then target the data link and ... fire it while in turret.

I'm assuming you are, but just in case, make sure you are close enough to the terminals. If you are too far away they are in a sort of "not accessible" mode.

yeah I have tried with my face up against the post moving back inches at a time try again move back until I was just too far away and nothing.

My SRV is right now standing next to the thing since last night but the mission will have timed out, I presume this means to even test this I have to pick up a similar mission again?
Will the Datalink Scanner target and fire even if I don't have a live mission?

As long as there is a Datalink tower that you can target then you can also scan it.

Be aware when you target it though. It will show, in red, whether it is a Public or Private data link.

Public = Free to scan and access.
Private = You get a bounty on you for trespassing as well as potentially making defensive turrets and sentries aggressive (turn red on your scanner)

Ok just managed to get back in game, as I expected big mission failed as soon as I'm in.

Tried to target the datalink with the secondary fire..... zero

Changed the datalink scanner to primary fire and tried again... scanning working... woop woop

Had an idea, changed the datalink scanner back to secondary fire and tried again and IT NOW WORKS... I have no idea what is going on here.

Glad you got it to work. Might be worth reporting it as a bug. Seems to be one.

And ensure that the option "Deploy hardpoints on fire" is set to On. If set to Off, Data Scanner does not deploy.

Does this bug has been acknowledged by FD ? Because this must be fixed sooner rather than later.

On an other note... I finally found a POI with a terminal ( took me 45 minutes flying over 3 POI before I could see something on my ship. ( best POI system ever ... )). So... I had to go to my control and toggle "fire on deploy" ( which MUST be fixed ). I'm scaning it. "All links established" message... then what ??? Nothing happens ! No credits, nothing more to do. You scan just for scaning ? Does it add something into cartographics ? What the hell does it do ?

Some missions will require you "extract data" from a datalink, as the OP posted.

You can practice scanning them, as you have done, and nothing happens ...... except I went up to a data link once and said "what happens if I link to this one, instead ?" .... and everything started firing at me ... so watch out, it's a dangerous universe !

I had to find 5 terminals, and had a countdown of 1 minute after scanning one to find the next one. This is impossible. I couldn't even find where all 5 terminals are, let alone get to them within a minute each!?! I spent 2 hours on this. Why is it so hard?

So far for me to properly use the SRV Scanner: I have the scanner bound to a key in the options menu and a key bound to SRV Turret (to control the turret on its own). When you come up to a terminal change to control the turret and target the terminal and press and hold the key you bound to the scanner. You can still fire the canon and use the scanner with the respective buttons. I believe its mainly because you can only really aim up and down while controlling the turret to be able to look up and scan the terminal as the scanner seems to only scan when you're aiming up at it.

I had the same problem as Vulcan24v. I managed to scan the data outlet assigning my data link scanner to primary fire. The secondary fire seem to be completely non functional in the SRV. I had set my canon to secondary but nothing happened when I tried to use it.

@intrepedis: Yes, the same thing happened to me. After scanning the first outlet nothing happened so I started to scan others. Eventually I gave up. In the mission description there was nothing about scanning several outlets, only one. If you are supposed to scan the right one there seem to be no way of knowing which one that is.

So HOW on Earth are we completing such missions? I have ''firing deploys hardpoints'' set to ''off'' and I AM NOT CHANGING IT TO ON NO MATTER WHAT CAUSE I HAVE A TICK IN MY HANDS AND CAN ACCIDENTALY PRESS FIRE BUTTON IN STICK AND GET a FINE INSIDE STATIONS. Can I complete this kind of missions with firing deploys hardpoins set to off at the same time have the datalink scanner work OR IS THIS BUG NOT FIXED YET :mad::mad::mad::mad:
