Missions to kill <x> pirates/traders/etc?

Where do you find the pirates/traders/etc wanted by these missions, and how do you know that they are pirates/traders/etc once found?

For pirates and assassinations, search Unidentified Signal Sources in the systems named in the missions. You'll find the targets there, or will 'stumble across' a NPC who'll tell you where to go (and change your mission accordingly). Alternatively, allow yourself to be interdicted. If you're hunting pirates make sure you have some cheap cargo in your hold. The pirates need to scan you for cargo, and then attack you. If you have no cargo, they can't pirate you.

For traders, you'll find them at USS also, or interdict them.

Not exactly true!

Pirates will scan your ship and say things like "What treats do you carry?" in text chat. If you have anything, they will open fire. Otherwise, they will ignore you. BUT if they are wanted (or you're in an anarchy system) you can still engage them, and it will count towards the mission.

For the pirate ones you can also destroyed wanted ships at nav beacons. I've found only the wanted ships that attack another ship seem to count though. However kill Bounty hunters missions don't seem to work at nav beacons, and I haven't tried any destroy trader ones yet.

Wanted ships aren't necessarily pirates. They could simply be traders wanted by the local system authority (for loitering on a pad or accidentally shooting a kill-stealing cop!).

Ok, cheers. I've encountered that scenario. Every pirate I've ever met has been clean!

You need a KWS to see their status in other systems, especially in anarchy ones

I just abandoned 2 of those , one was bountyhunters i was killing several of them and mission was not updatin... and i had to pay several fines for atacking those clean bountyhunters... and another one of pirates when i almost got 6 the mission updates for a counter mission for other side and the count on pirates resets... awesome... no more crappy buggy missions for me ever.
