Rather than have a generic Threat 4 Corvette (that every lord seems to fly) could you vary your opponents loadouts and ships / numbers?
How about a cloud of G5 Sidewinders, all armed with nasty phasing, chaff etc?
A mixed squad of ships (not the Threat 5 FDL + 2 or 3 Vultures), more like Pirate Attack sources.
SLF carriers: how about a mixed gang of Kraits, T-10s and Keelbacks puffing out a cloud of SLFs? Certain security signal sources do this and they are very fun to play.
Use different engineering on Corvettes. PA, Chaff and MCs is a bit dull. Can you make a giant missile boat? How about Flechettes or shock cannons? Each weapon requires a different approach and would make for varied gaming.
NPCs using reverb mines and torps. Spank those shield hulks!
Please also apply this to wing Pirate Lord missions too, as they are FdL + 2 or 3 Vultures. The older Threat 5 was more varied- maybe blend the two?
By varying loadouts you make players have to vary tactics and ship design in return. Right now you can predict what ships will carry, which kind of kills any anticipation.
