Horizons misson abandonment penalty - why?

I choose not to take missions that involve long (10k’s) sc to the station, so it is intensely annoying to get fined and lose reputation for refusing to be redirected to such places. Have FD having explained why they will not give the user choice on whether to complete the agreed contract or abandon it without penalty. There seems no obvious (real world) contract analogy, game-lore of game-play reason to explain why they would not.

last thing i heard was they want to make that redirection optional, something you can decline.

which is much needed in my opinion.

so - it is on the list, and as for now i abandon every redirection and don't care about the reputation hit.

disabling it till a fix would be nice, but including a decline would be much better imho!

This would be such a quick fix, I wonder why it has not been implemented. I certainly fail to appreciate the inherent game play - after having carefully selected missions I want to do, planned a route and set off, to then be redirected to somewhere I deliberately avoided and have my route planning screwed, is not the sort of game play element I find rewarding.

I agree 1000 times. Missions that redirect you are more than annoying. I detest landing on planets at the best of times, I have to do it for prospecting etc but I still don't like it. I deliberately avoid missions that ask for stuff to be taken to a planet side base so, being redirected to one isn't my idea of fun at all.

Getting a rep hit for declining should not be standard. They changed the terms of the contract, they should be responsible for getting it from where you were supposed to take it to the new destination if you decline. You should be able to decline, then take it to where they originally wanted for the original reward. That was the contract you agreed to.

Absolutely ludicrous. I take a passenger mission a few 10's ls to the station and immediately get a message telling me that the destination has changed to a location 336k ls distance to the new location. Only just left the mission screen. Not even launched. So abandon, with consequent loss of rep.
How do FD even imagine this is enjoyable game play.

Try taking passenger missions with fussy passengers :D

I just had a passenger (law abiding and not wanted by any authorities) who booked a ticket on my civilian Beluga, then refused to pay any of the fee just because the ship was scanned??

No one in their right mind smuggles in a Beluga! You cannot refuse to pay a contract just because you are unhappy about something (which is inevitable) happening!
I have to start taking money up front. You know, like all companies actually would.

Virtually nothing in this game is thought through. :(

I'm grinding away with trade missions and always seem that one of the missions changes destination.
It is a bit of a nuisance but for me, I do it for the extra reward.
The most used change sends me to a planet landing over 2000 LS away from star.

One time I had a fine of 163,000 credits. I don't know where that came from, but I did remember abandoning a mission or two in the past. That has been my only trade fine.
A week ago I got a change for a 40,000 credit mission, but the extra was 60,000 cr. So that was good.

If you think my mission credits are low, I'm grinding a trade ASPx for a Python. Taking a long time, but I'm not good at combat. (Or mining, or POI's)

I did the same a while back and regretted it. the Python isn't a good trading ship unless you are prepared to get the engineered FSD for extra range. 13LY per jump fully laden with 256 units of cargo means a lot of jumps on trade routes. I recently got my 5A FSD, (same size as the ASP you'll note but on a much bigger ship), engineered with L4 upgrade for 18Ly.

With that AspX you could fit it with a couple first-class passenger cabins and be raking in some cash (especially from systems in Boom)

Doing stacks of data missions at the moment. Lots of them get the can you deliver in 17 minutes update but i can deal with that.

I think the scanning issue for passengers is supposed to be because they are dodgy geezers?

The insta fail bug on some commodity missions is driving me bonkers. Must have had 10 of them blow me out now
