Mitterand Hollow one of the coolest places in the ED galaxy

Yeah yeah I know a lot of CMDRs probably know about this place and with over 2,000 hours played I'm only just investigating it.

I had heard something about it a long time ago but recently stumbled upon this location when searching for something interesting to do. whilst my squadron awaits Fleet Carriers. Essentially for those that do not know Mitterand Hollow is a small moon near to Sol in the Epsilon Indi system. This moon is special and worth visiting because it is so tiny and has a really quick orbital speed so will pass the planet it orbits in around 1 minute 30. Whats really cool is you can land on the planet with a bit of timing in supercruise you can experience a really quick day and night cycle. I've done this both in monitor and VR mode and it reminds me of why I love Elite so much.

I've not been since switching to PC and VR, so I need to go back someday.

Thats exactly what I was thinking as I read the thread. I visited in 2D and should really go back in VR.

I need to dig through some threads and the Canonn website to find some other gems, though is there anything much like this left. I remember reading about other anomalies but am pretty sure most were fixed.

Made a short video of it when I went there nearly 2 years ago !

Definitely a place to go atleast once :)

(Everything is in real time in my video)

Skardee & the closest landable planet to the star is also an overlooked gem on the bubbles doorstep.

bring your sun cream though.

With the speed of Mitterand Hollow and the mass of New Africa, MH shouldn't orbit NA, but be flung out immediately. In order to maintain the moon, New Africa would have to have tens of thousands of times more mass.
Well it is a big galaxy and I am sure there are things out there we just can't quit comprehend. To say we know exactly how everything works, how everything in the galaxy works to our very limited knowledge is, I think just a little presumptuous.

It's pretty basic physics. It's not like there's an alternative set of orbital mechanics in use around the galaxy.

If it helps your headcanon, you can of course imagine that it is for example an alien space station held on orbit by mysterious force, but seems a bit convoluted way to explain away why someone at FDev made a mistake with the decimal.

If I recall correctly it was a data entry error from either Sandro or Brookes that caused it and it was decided to leave it in :)
