Mixed Breeding

Does anyone know (devs, don't be shy) whether or not two animals of a similar species will breed? For example, if I place a Dromedary camel and a Bactrian camel in the same habitat, will they breed (boom chickie boom boom) or are they two totally separate species? Mules spring to mind.

The answer maybe.

Datamining has found image files associated with tigons, but said images are placeholders. It's possible that some hybrids are in, but it's not a guarantee (your camel hybrid, for example).

That would be incredibly cool, but I'm not sure if they'd be able to do all those extra graphics? I did see mention of the tigon which I hope means we're getting them and ligers. That would be very cool!

There is a hint in one of the videos that there is a surprise to come about breeding they (frontier) are very pleased about. Common (aka forum) view is this is either mixed breeding or artificial insemination. Most are of the view its mixed breeding because of data mining some artificial insemination because Pandas haven't made an appearance and this is an obvious Community challenge and/or research project

I thought the surprise referred to was what we would discover in beta e.g. melanistic and albinism?

This is exactly what I've thought as well. And an awesome discovery it was!

The mixed breeding (if it exists) not so much, in my opinion.
Personally, I find it unethical and definitely not fitting to the underlying idea of Planet Zoo: the conservation of animals in zoos and wildlife. In JWE it's totally fine though, as the game is all about the exploitation of nature for financial gain... and how it can go wrong.

(I know about the data mining result but still hope, this is a false hint.)

I agree, I talked about this on another thread already so I won't go into much detail but: I certainly hope mixed breeds stay far away from PZ. The game is about conservation and not only are mixed animals genetically and physically horrible, but they also do nothing for conservation.

If you watch the latest video "Ways to Play" on youtube, you can spot a melanistic tiger.

Yes I saw that although I'm not sure it wasn't just wet. I saw images during the beta too so we know it's in there. That's why I'm not sure we should expect any more surprises from the breeding system. (data mining aside). as others have said there are issues with mixed breeding so I won't be upset if tigons aren't in there myself.

Same here. If interspecies breeding often leads to sterility. It is also not possible to release them into wild. I would not want this game to promote those things.

Saw it as well
4:14. Though Clie (in the other thread) and Cocolori here is probably right and the tiger is just wet. Never heard on melanistic tiger in real life, just white tigers.
Both of these are recessive traits and so they are only bred in zoo's. In India all the white tigers have come from Nandan Kanan Zoo where they were first bred.

@Tatu: I know. Never heard of melanistic tigers before, though. Apparently they are a thing, though they still have their stripes and aren't "completly" black like melanistic Leopards and Jaguars. (I know those aren't "completly" black as well. hence the quotation marks. You can often see their spots in the right light).

Full melanistic (black) tigers don't exist,so I doubt they will be in the game. They can be pseudo-melanistic,this means that some parts of the body are black, because the stripes are bigger than normal and merge together. I think this one was just wet or it's a lightning bug.

If hybrids like ligers and tigons are in the game,I can see them only in connection with a special rescue mission or anything like that.Where we get to rescue them from a facility/private breeder and let them live their life peacefully until the end of their days.
