Mobile (Andy, iOS, Win.) Companion App suggestion

I think it would be very useful (and cool) to have a companion App for tablets and/or phones, which would allow you to access things like the system and galaxy maps.

I've found that the controls to navigate certainly the Galaxy map (with thumbsticks and trigger zooms) to be a bit cumbersome. Include the search which brings up that awful keyboard on the Xbox, and its a bit of a nightmare!

If there was a way to select a system in the companion and plot this in the game for you, that would be great. I'm sure there are other use cases too (finding your friends!) but it's a starter for 10.

Thoughts?

I completely agree. It doesn't help that the Preview version won't let me scale the screen boundaries. It's especially annoying in my maps. A companion app would also help chat w/ other CMDRs based on the fact that the on-screen keyboard takes over the whole screen/game. It could also help to set up fire groups, module configurations, target/system selection, OR...

A companion app could me used to create key-bindings that most XB players don't have access to. Separate from the maps and normal cockpit functions, the app could feature a digital button layout much like DJ's use. These buttons could be customized by each user to be key-bindings of whatever they feel important to their personal play style, much like a DJ.

PS: I'm not a DJ.

There is a companion app already but I think it only works for the PC version, however it doesn't have the features you're looking for. It would be good if they included Smartglass support at some point as I think its a really under used feature. At the moment all smartglass will do in ED is a basic keyboard which helps when talking to other pilots or searching the galaxy map.

Personally I haven't had any problems with the controls and I think they have done an amazing job mapping everything to the controller, they just have a few bugs to fix. However I am nearly always in support of smartglass support and extra options/features so here's hoping it gets added.

just use websites on your mobile device. I put some useful sites on my sig. the Database one is very handy

But with a companion app, you could hypothetically target a system galaxy on your tablet and have it lock the destination in your game. Just having an interactive galaxy map on my tablet so I can plot a course and plan ahead while I'm in hyperspace would be amazing.

yes, but websites exist now.
