Mobile-base/carrier ships

One day it would be cool if we could have a ships that was way too large for any station, that act as a mobile station. Maybe a 1/3 to 1/5 the of capital ships. They could have an airlock like the big stations and require docking permission which the owner/pilot could grant or set to automatically allow it the are open pads, but deny perhaps if they are of a hostile faction or not have it be a choice. Different size landing pad, repair, refuel, restock, cargo bay, material storage, outfitting/modulde storage, fighter bays as some of the internals. As as far as the rest of the outfitting the usual stuff you would get for ships. Because it would be so huge and sluggish turrets and fighter for defenses as well as you or your buddies with your docmed ships.
Depending on the size of the carrier you could have different sizes and amounts of pads. These could act not only as mobile bases/carriers but also as personal storage for cargo and materials, and modules for your other ships. You could haul your ships around and your friends, and when walking around comes about this would be even cooler for obvious reasons. Pirate boardings as an example other than just hanging out and looking at your space loot, or whatever activities and minigames come with walking slash floating about.

When you leave them you could have them go into have them go into stealth mode not unlike your ship when you send it away while in your srv, but this one would be out in space, could have a wing beacon, like normal ships. Maybe players could land in your ships and refuel and repair and you would get paid, for it, but you would need to keep fuel and resouces for repairs stocked.

The cost should be high in the billions, as far as where you might buy and outfit such a ship there would probably have to be some news type of station to support it. Meaning not likely to happen anytime soon, the ships alone and their functionality would be a huge deal of work but would be amazing.

If you could do player to player commodity, material, trading that would be cool. As far as the outfitting of your docked ships on the carrier the stored modules could be set to personal or for sale so you can keep them to your sell or let other commanders buy them. It could see parking outside a coriolis and flying a python or larger ship back and forth to stock up on commodites, ammo, fuel, module/weapons, and any other things you may need while your wing gaurds the ship. The selling prices of anything could be based on the demand off the current system your in rather than player set. This would incourage the same kind of buying low sell high attitude and could apply to weapons /modules so if you bought them a discount system and some one bought them in a different system you could make a bit off profit. This would take trading and being an elite trader to a whole new level.

Then there could be totally different uses like taking it to a conflict zone and sitting it on the outskirt of the battle as a place to retreat to and repair and restock. But also since it would have turrets and fighters it could also be a part of the fight like the capital ships are. If thing as looking bad for it you could send it away like you do to your ship while in the srv.

Anyway there are a lot of possibilities with this i could go on forever, but my tablet will die.

I another idea tractor beam to pull aboard disabled ship. From there they could be repaired or stripped of parts and cargo and their crew released safely into slavery or sent on there happy way woth a freshly repair ship if you want to pretend not to be a scumbag.

Found this perfect example http://thepeoplesmedia.news/2016/03...commissions-creation-of-hermes-class-carrier/

So it'd be an independent capital ship

Sure a very small independent capital ship without real offensive capabilities. It would have defense turrets like stations but not insanley powetful. Its purpose is utilitarian more than anything else. Though I'd be working for the empire. I picture them about the size of an outpost maybe bigger.

I'd love something like this.. not a personal capital ship which I don't thinkmakes much sense - we're just lowly Cmdrs not Galactic generals - but more like a personal craft transporter.

Something like a space version of the flying crane, except much, much larger. Instead of just taking one module like the sky crane, it would be a flying frame which several ships could dock onto. It'd be great for moving your ships around, or as a support vessel.

More less I just want a flying hangar with some of the services that outposts have, not looking for a capital ship or combat vessel at all. Some that haul ships, repair, refuel, restock, outfitting, stores cargo, material, and modules for outfitting. And a tractor beam to pull disabled ship onboard for rescues or piracy. Han solo has one of these in the new star wars.

I'd like to see this. Being able to provide services to other cmdrs as a means of making money could be a brand new angle of game play. I want to be able to progress past being an independent cmdr flying the galaxy solo, to flying a ship with a crew of NPCs. Flying the Orca, even after taxi missions are implemented, just seems wrong without at least a small staff of android butlers and chefs. Or heck, we already know that to purchase a ton of slaves is very affordable. It seems like it wouldn't cost that much more to hire a competent crew for your mobile star dock.

Sounds good to me i want a Bender unit. But yeah having the ability to provide these services could open up all sorts of new professions and revenue streams, this would be for the ridiculously rich commander who wants to start thier own "business". Salvagers, mechanics, weapons dealers, ship haulers, pirates who want to take more than the cargo and take the whole ship for parts or just use the ship itself, rescue crews similar to fuel rats but with added capabilities and many more.
