I wanted to try a unique way to steal cargo with the new gold mining rush. I put collectors and a refinery in my ship, then followed miners into the rings. As they mined my plan was to steal their fragments and refine painite.

However, it appears if you do not actually shoot the rock it’s impossible to refine anything. The refinery gets stuck at 96% and will not go up. It also seems you cannot collect minerals either. This is a real shame

Strange. could have swore this worked before. I did it by accident flying by an NPC mining while i had limpets deployed , so i turned around and sat underneath the NPC and just took all his hard work. I do not recall the refinery getting stuck, but i also had some ore in the refinery from a prior operation.

Have you tried it against NPCs?
I just assume NPC miners fit a PD to stop ore theft.

If you’re mining you can supplement using others fragments you just cannot completely let them do all the work. Later I’m going to put a mining laser on my ship and try it again. I am wondering if there is some mechanic where if you have no mining laser it won’t refine. Kind of like if you have a no fuel scoop you cannot use a neutron boost.

Heh, I was just wondering about this, myself, last night.

I was in some random system, hiding in an asteroid belt while my prismatic shields recharged, and there was a Cobra NPC diligently firing a mining laser at a 'roid until he dislodged a single chunk, then he'd launch a collector to retrieve it.

So I started launching my collectors as well. :p

Alas, no refinery on-board so I couldn't pursue this any further.

Seems like a bug to me, as this should work.

After all, Wing Mining is basically supposed to work no different (?)
(and it definitely worked just fine in the past)
