Modding engine sounds?

Since changing HUD colours is a thing since quite some time... what about engine sounds or sounds in general?

Some engine sounds are really a matter of taste, but having to listen for so many hours, they indeed become part of my "which ship do I want to fly" checklist.

So, is there a way to mod the sounds? E.g. I would like the Type 6 engines for my Asp Explorer, because I cannot bear to listen to the latter sound anymore.

In my research I also found threads asking for realistic sounds, i.e. no sound travel through the void and no "simulated sounds" in the cockpit.

This question just might as well be a big "push up" for the devs to see...

Give it a month, they will be $2 in the store.
 
I second this.

I want to install Yoshimura pipes on my Clipper.

We already have spoilers, bumpers and other auto parts, so why not "mufflers"?
 
I always thought the Asp engine sound was some sort of inside joke or something...

I KINDA hoped with ship kits that we'd be getting things like actual replacements for engines. For example my Vulture could have nice round engines instead, I thought maybe it'd let make some of our ships look a little like some of the other concept art variants we'd seen. Would have been cool if that'd changed the engine noise some.

So I was pretty let down when I saw the badly stuck on stuff we got instead.
 
I always thought it would be cool if grade, rating, and modifications changed the pitch of engine sounds, and exhaust trails.

I also hate the sound of the Asp. :p

Yeah this as well, I thought it was strange that upgrading internals didn't alter aesthetics at all but I guess sometimes it's best to keep those two things separate and allow customisation of both,
 
I second this as well, my Vulture and FGS seemed to be borked... The accel and decel sounds drag on interminably and get loader as the game sessions go on. I just hate the sound they make!
 
So... nobody has any idea how to mod it? I guess then it would be more than just exchanging some wav files in some subfolders... -.-

How can you hate the sound of the Vulture??? Heretic! It's the most beautiful engine sound in the game :D
 
Dirty drive tuning needs a V8 style sound, clean needs a Tesla/high-end electric engine vibe I reckon. Enhancing the engine trails according to Grade of tuning would also be awesome.

Also, the ASP and iCourier need a re-work. I don't like blowing raspberries or flying a vacuum cleaner.

Ship sounds I don't particularly like but recognise as good quality nonetheless include the Annie, Vulture, Python and Diamondbacks.

FDL, Viper and Clipper are excellent.
 
I'd love the ships to feel more organic. I'd like the tuning of engines to modify their sounds. Maybe make the deeper and more vocal if you tune then. Also highly tuned craft should creak and groan like the Cobra MKIII does on boost. Commanders should get the definite impression that they're exceeding certain design parameters when they tune the heck out of ship and stress it beyond it's type rating. Lasers should hum and crackle more as they're tuned and guns sound more crackly and metallic. Shields ought to produce a constant, quiet crackly hum when upgraded and stutter and buzz when forming. The fans on the power distributor ought to whirr and buzz when it's stressed. It could be SO cool!

It could be so cool to have the impression that your ship is operating at the very limit of what's possible. And it should feel slightly dangerous.

In an ideal world the air would taste slightly metallic and be filled with "hot electronics" and "Magic Smoke escaping"

They could link it to the karma system.

Good Karma = Cool space sounds, like clangers on speed.
Bad Karma = Nokia ring tone
Neutral = Jet engines noise we have now.
