Would it be possible to mod the steam train to a tracked ride (like the auto ride) so that you can have just one station and people will ride it? Maybe Gregorburns knows something. He hacked the train to do loops. Maybe hack just one of the trains and leave the other as a transport since you can choose between both trains for both rides. So the train is flagged as a transport, so change the flag to a tracked ride like the autos. Would be even better if the devs gave us a choice to switch between transport and tracked ride mode.

Still i can answer a bit on your question. The long complicated aswer is probably that it is possible to do eventually, but as far as i know it's not possible to do right now. The only thing we can really mod at this point of time now are certain files of a certain type that hold certain options. The other thread showed the most usefull example's of what can be done at this time.
Changing a transport ride to a tracked ride is not one of the options within there unfortunatly. Im pretty sure if it could be simply done by changing a value, Frontier would already have done so in the latest patch. My guess is that its a bit more complicated
