Mode switching mission board update gone: alternative for ranking up

So, as far as i know, the mode switching thing is gone. Sort of. This is going to be a pain for people who didn't rank up to Admiral/Duke like me :)

What i'm suggesting is this.

In superpower capital systems, that is Sol, Achenar and Alioth, there should be additional option under "contacts" - auxilary navy contact. There, you can ask for special missions for rank progression. They won't give you money, but will give you more rank progression than usual missions. They need to be really difficult missions. Example, feds: "There's a war in Perkele system. Empire brought Majestic interdictor into a conflict and is curbstomping local factions we would rather like to succeed. Your goal will be to drive it away 5 times, giving our friends a little breathing room. But obviously, you're not a federal pilot and if you're caught, we'll deny any knowledge". Or hell, maybe even ask people to get some loca faction to x influence % by any means necessary, getting people into BGS - at higher ranks, of course. You can think of anything interesting.

Yeah, it's simple and somewhat boring, but beats waiting for 15 minutes before you can grab another load of donation missions.

Why? I have no rank with the Imp's nor the Fed's. In what way is this going to be a pain to me or others who don't give two rats about these factions or their ships?

I am Admiral, did never switchy thingy. I prefer to play the game, it works!

Exactly. The metas are nice but if a CMDR just plays the game and does not worry about rank, credits, ships, permits, etc. then the credits, REP, INF, rank, rewards and permits all just flow from the game.

Besides, give it a week and some new earning "exploit" will be discovered.

I don't think anything has changed re: mode switching in particular, it's more that there just aren't [as m]any missions out there in general.

I agree with Jasonbarron and it's what I did on my last CMDR.

After resetting I refuse to join the navy. FD have said they are working on new careers for both navies, so I will decide on one when they bring that update.

I want to play how FD properly want it to play, not some placeholder that's been in since beta.

For anybody who hasn't had six hours a day since release to "just let it flow naturally" mode switching is the only realistic way to earn enough rank to buy a Corvette or Cutter.
Only true with the "must have cutter/Corvette after X Days of playing" premise. The real diffrence between the two mindsets is one is impatience and in a hurry and the other isn't.

Not that I'm in any hurry, but I've been playing this game for weeks and I'm not even remotely in the neighborhood of being highly ranked enough to buy one of those ships. The only way I could earn the rank for one is to focus on that pretty much exclusively, and that's WITH mode switching; without mode switching, nobody is going to be earning those ships who isn't retired:)

K-Rose, that would be a welcome addition to the game, a naval progression path that was both fun and sensible. I'd already decided to shelve my plan to climb any higher re rank until something like that came along.

Gods no an exploit has been fixed. Let's find another way to cheat ASAP!
Well you see the thing is a) using an intended feature put there by the devs is not cheating and b) removing an admittedly gimpy feature WITHOUT first improving the mechanic that it was propping up is silly.

It's called "Path of least resistance." (Or something like that.)

Yeah, I've heard that before. "It was in Beta and I got used to is, but they changed (to work as originally intended) on release. I want it back the way it was in Beta NOW!"

Thats pretty much what I was talking about, we talk her about long term goals in a game that is designed to be played for years. If you think in weeks you wanna go there faster then its designed for.
And the whole "only people who don't have a live and play videogames the whole day" passiv aggressive argument isn't getting you anywhere, it just shows a lack of arguments. Again, I did it, I have live, it just takes more then a few weeks. Was playing more then a Year when I reached Admiral and thats allright.

This. I'd rep you if I weren't on my cell.

@bomba, when I used the term "weeks" I meant in game weeks. I'm approaching 2000 hours played. Please don't get saucy with me, okay? I'm not looking for a fight, I just have a different opinion than you.

I've played for a year like that, or if you want to express that in more quantifiable ways, over 1500 hours. Current ranks are Ensign with the Feds and Count with the Empire. That's the point where the ranking starts to get very slow. It is something of an irritation to know that I'll be lucky to have the rank for either a cutter or a Corvette by this time next year.
