Engineers modified consumer firmware extremely rare?

I have performed several upgrades for some of my ships and many of them were level 3 and one was level 4.
I barely had difficulty finding the materials needed, but now that I have started to upgrade the lasers, i am faced with the problem to find this modified consumer firmware.

I followed the description of the material and sought in USS at the data points of shipwrecks,
but they threw off everything except the firmware. Although it was also different firmware here, but not the right one.
I can not imagine that others have the same problems to upgrade their energy weapons, particularly since this is a material which is meant to be widespread, according to the description.
Am I doing something wrong or I'm looking in the wrong places?
I have also tried to find this elusive firmware on POI data points on the surface of planets and in those Datapoints on Settlements...

...So far without success.

I have got the stuff only two times as a mission reward at Jameson Memorial, but never again ...
It is certainly not the point of the game sitting on a station and to renew the Mission Board 1000 times just to get to a mission that perhaps rewards one of those Things, and then you need it for just about any upgrade that has something to do with energy weapons and not only them?

Can someone please help here?I'm beginning to despair... :(

I found them by scanning a large planetery outpost.
Raided a whole bunch of them in a wing as security is problematic solo.
Out of 14 scaned resources only 2 modified consumer.

Then this is a game mechanic that should be changed.
Basic materials such as these should be obtained from defeated ships or be purchasable/otherwise available at certain locations...

Way easier to find from missions. If you want to 'farm' them look for missions. They are kind of like a bonus from just hitting surface nodes.

been logging in an out at 4 stations for almost 2 hours not even one offerd as reward. ill give up on engineers till they change that shiiizle

i am having some luck scanning data nodes in bases. the down side is that once you get the scan, the location dries up. does anyone know if it ever resets? if so how long does it take?

I'm having the same problem with Modified embedded firmware. Spent 3 hours tonight chasing down data points.......got every kind of firmware bar the one I wanted. What I don't understand is how people have the patience to save up enough resources for 15 or 20 rolls with the engineer. My God...if I have to find 20 of these things I think I'll blow my brains out.

I see others have the same or at least a very similar Problem.
I wonder if we are only looking at the wrong station's Mission Board or this is a bug...

Anyway, how does FD expect from us to perform at least the smallest upgrade on our laser weapons?
I mean that which requires only nickel and one of these MCFs.
The MCF should be at least almost as easy to find as said nickel.

That's just ridiculous

P.s. @h347h, where/at which Station did you found so many MCFs that it is possible to farm them?

I just found one when I scanned a 'Private Data Beacon' within a 'Degraded Commissions' USS.
It's clear that more than one type of material/data can be found at each type of source and each material can be found at multiple sources...my ship's databanks & materials bay are filling up fast, dunno how useful any of it is though.

I have scanned countless of these 'Degraded Commissions' USS, but never even received a single MCF. For that I get tons of other data.

I do not know where the fault lies.

I wonder if perhaps the flown ship type plays a role?
Or the system in which you are looking?

Or it's like the lottery, some win and some do not...
But I do not Play elite to play lotto.
I can do that if I participate in online gambling.
This is also true on the fact that you can get experimental improvements only by a roulette game. Without knowing what you get.
This is not what I thought elite is. There should be no gambling. At least not in these aspects of the game.

I do not know how do you think ...

You'll have more success by not focusing on just one goal. Try to progress on other upgrades simultaneously. Eventually that material will just come to you.

Just as I've done it before. That way, I came to the other upgrades, but now my ship is in all other areas equipped and upgraded as i have wished. Now only the lasers are missing. These are undeniably important for the fight.

I have currently no plan how to upgrade my three other ships. I want my Corvette battleready. But i Need those MCFs . . .

If i could choose the experimental effect for the 4 Burstlasers on my vette, it would be Phasing Sequence.
But I had probably countless times the roulette wheel turn until I got done ....

All this is not really motivating.

I see those modified consumer firmware a lot as reward on missions, and I keep ignoring them. Missions are my usual source for hard-to-find materials.

where exactly did you see these missions? Maybe I really just searched on the wrong stations ...

They are on just about every station I visit. Here's my usual mission run:
1. Go to station.
2. Check missions that rewards with materials[n] and/or cargo[n]
3. If there's no relevant rewards, relog and check again.
4. If there's one, accept.
5. On the destination station. Deliver mission and check new missions there.
6. Rinse and repeat.

Eventually I'll get cordial/friendly status to those factions, and will provide me with missions that give much better rewards.

That is exactly what i do all the time, but with no success.
For some reason, i get all sorts of stuff, but not what i need.

Well i will continue with my travels in search for those extremely rare Materials, but i cannot say that i have fun doing it.
FD: please reconsider your approach to 'Engineers'... At least a little bit.

Perhaps you can get those missions on high tech/industrial systems? I'm guessing those firmware should come there. If not, try planetside stations.

could it be that im looking around the wrong system (wyrd , the deweller)?

that it is location based?

nvm , i cant read.

Will keep on searching!
