Engineers Modified Consumer Firmware - Where is it ?

Hi all,

Has anyone else had any problems finding MCF since the latest patch ?? I have been to earth type worlds in civil war and spent literally hours looking for encoded emmisions and found zero .. tried multiple systems .. drove around multiple planets looking for beacons to scan and settlements .. been to systems where I am allied with all factions and zero ... Looking at google people say earth like worlds in systems in civil war but I am finding zip .. tried in wing/not in wing .. open / solo .. nothing ... Anyone any ideas >>??? This a bug or are people finding any ?>?

Best source (I found a few recently) seems to be data points in planetary bases - the planetary scan missions are good way to find these: try systems with civil wars. Otherwise sometimes you get datapoints in USS (low & high grade emissions), and sometimes random mission rewards, I'm not sure if there's a pattern here, but with hindsight I recall seeing them often in certain systems and not others.

There's lots of guides out there that suggest landing your srv outside the exclusion zones of medium security settlements, driving your SRV (the guides lose me at this point) into the settlement and then using a mixture of magic and voodoo (the guides I've seen don't explain how to scan these points in the "fun" buggy, where they can be found or even what they look like) to navigate around and link up with various data points around the base before it blows you to pieces... then you just have to get your srv back into the ship using The Force. The whole thing seems a massive kerfuffle and the SRV gives me motion sickness so I've prided myself on getting quite far without it.

The above posts mention you can get them from datapoints in USS? Can you elaborate on this? How do I spot them/scan them in USS etc? Failing this anyone know systems that regularly spawn missions that offer them? I'd rather go to Sag A and back to get them than using the buggy.

It is not that hard when you get the hang of it. The datapoints are masts with a red head, see screenshot:

When you approach the mast, select it as a target, and use your thrusters to fly straight upwards a bit till you can scan it. Once you reach enough height, be sure to use small puffs of your thruster not to drain the capacitator to fast (4pips in engine btw).

I usually have good luck finding Modified Consumer Firmware by scanning Private Data Beacons in Encoded Emissions USS's. I find so much that I have to toss it out frequently.

Now the Modified EMBEDDED Firmware is the one that is best found by doing the base scanning runs, right? Of those I only have 1 that I got from a mission many moons ago. Doing a base run is not something I see in my future.

Or you can switch to turret mode and aim the turret manually at the targeted mast and scan it that way. Quite usefull as you are able to target data point masts from 35 meters or so (means you can stand on the ground and target and scan masts on most roofs).

Apologies, I was confusing Modified Consumer Firmware and Embedded. MCF seems readily available from missions, but I've yet to see MEF as a mission reward. I think "they" want to force us to use the buggy and see the installations they spent ages designing.
