Is it possible to have a flexible cargo space so we can have better module assignment?
i.e. The AspX has fixed 6/5/3/3/3/2/2 module slots, but a lot of that space is wasted by smaller modules while we want that extra size 3 module but only have a size 2 slot left while wasting 4-5 spaces with smaller modules elsewhere.
Proposal: Make one big customizable cargo space with a max volume as defined currently
The total space on the Asp is 2^6 + 2^5 + 2^3 + 2^3 + 2^3 + 2^2 + 2^2 = 128 units of volume, say m³
This would allow for a much more efficient loadout and perhaps be a little more realistic. All ships would become so much more flexible and useful.
A balancing option is to have, for example, 2-3 of these modular cargo sections where there is one 6m³ space for sensors and larger sections for any other modules if FD want to have some kind of limitation.
ie AspX
Cargo Section 1 (64m³)
Cargo Section 2 (58m³)
Sensor Section (6m³)
This would also limit the module sizes to 1x size 6 and 1x size 5 in regards to Balance™
Cargo Section 1 (64m³)
64m³ 6C Fuel Scoop
Cargo Section 2 (58m³)
16m³ 4D Business class passenger cabin
16m³ 4A Shield Generator
8m³ 3A AFMS
8m³ 3E Cargo rack
4m³ 2E Cargo rack
4m³ 2G Plannetary vehicle hangar (2xSRV)
2m³ 1E Cargo rack
Sensor Section (6m³)
2m³ 1C Advanced discovery scanner
2m³ 1C Detailed Surface Scanner
2m³ 1E Docking computer
64+58+6 = 128m³
Someone else could have another setup like:
Cargo Section 1 (64m³)
64m³ 6A Shields
Cargo Section 2 (58m³)
16m³ 4A Shield cell bank
16m³ 4D FSD Interdictor
16m³ 4E Cargo rack
8m³ 3A Collector Limpet controller
2m³ 1E Cargo rack
Sensor Section (6m³)
2m³ 1C Advanced discovery scanner
2m³ 1E Docking computer
2m³ unused
64+56+6 = 128m³
Or a cargo hauler:
Cargo Section 1 (64m³)
32m³ 5A Fuel scoop
16m³ 4A Shield Generator
16m³ 4E Cargo rack
Cargo Section 2 (58m³)
32m³ 5E Cargo rack
16m³ 4E Cargo rack
8m³ 3E Cargo rack
2m³ 2E Cargo rack
Sensor Section (6m³)
2m³ 1C Advanced discovery scanner
2m³ 1E Docking computer
2m³ unused
NB: Think of the efficiency for corrosive-resistant cargo racks...
