Auto pilot is one of those requests that a lot still consider isn't likely to happen.
In the meantime, 100% throttle until 7 seconds away, then 75% throttle until about 6-7 ls distance, then 100% throttle.
If you suffer a stutter and your "time to target" falls below 6s, point your nose down at 75%throttle and wait to see the "slow down" disappear (if you're quick enough, it won't appear at all, so just wait for the tell tale sound of your engine giving).
If you hit a gravity well, your "time to target" may increase above 6s. Feel free to throttle to 100% until it drops back to 6.
6s is the magic number. If at 6 throttle down quick. Any higher, make it faster.
Now, to me, that's a very quick summary of it. But there's a reason it's more detailed than "point and sit".
I get it the "mini game" is annoying for some. But if there was no meaning to the use of throttle control, it would be even more mundane. The fact is, if you know all the tricks, you can get from a to b faster than those who don't.
If that sort of detail doesn't interest you, then that's fine. But I like it.
If you want to be even faster, you can have 100% throttle until 5 ls (but it must be immediately when you see 5) then you throttle down to 0%, wait a bit for a good moment (dunno what exactly, you have to find outIn the meantime, 100% throttle until 7 seconds away, then 75% throttle until about 6-7 ls distance, then 100% throttle.
It would appear this thread has devolved into semantics. I guess I haven't spent enough time with this game to adequately discuss this in terms you all recognize. I'll try again:
You know that part of the game were you want to get to a certain space station so you have to go really, really fast but then you have to stop going really, really fast so you don't overshoot the station but if you stop too soon you'll drop out when the station is still a distance away? You have to manually slow yourself down to an adequate speed because, somehow, even though we've achieved spaceflight to billions of solar systems we still don't have the technology to stop a flying space ship when it's the desired distance to the target space station? (which really, really sucks).
Ring any bells?
