[MODULE] Fuel Storage Pump

A Fuel Storage Pump Module.

It allows transferring fuel from tanks to cargo hold (and vice versa).

The module needs to be manually activated, and can only be activated outside of supercruise (a "safety" feature). Transfer takes a number of seconds.

This prevents using cargo holds as straight fuel tanks, and instead allows the cargo hold to be used as a 'reserve' tank you can stop and top-up from when needed: handy for long-distance explorers.

This would also allow commanders to sell harvested fuel to station markets as a low form of income.

Jaques station needed fuel before it could make it's 'big jump'. Faction mega-ships could be refuelled by the community the same way: commanders scoop a nearby star, tranfser to cargo, donate/sell to mega-ship to meet jump goal.

Probably shouldn't be a tiny module -- at least a size 2, maybe a 3.

Different grades for energy use / transfer speeds.

Operated in the ship's cargo tab, kind of like the mining refinery module.

in fact it is possible to add tanks .. it's already what I do to move faster than scoop each time and it is already possible to refuel at each station, moreover, there is already a module for transferring fuel.

however the idea of making fuel a trade is a good idea already suggested, refueling missions may be nice too to diversify.

to use the cargo as a tank, do you use your car tank as a luggage hold? .. I find this a little surprising but why not lol, will have to buy detergent to clean.

portable tanks perhaps that would take up space in the hold and be resold to the market.

I also proposed to be able to directly play refueling requests between players (or an NPC to refuel us).. it can be complicated to set up but I find it odd that this thing is offside .. by the forums.

Stuff we mine magically appears in cargo cannisters already when jettisoned, this wouldn't be any different. Maybe onboard synthesis can build cargo cannisters on demand?

However, having an entire cargo hold module become a reserve tank (and no longer usable for regular cargo) could work. But this may make implementation more complicated.

I agree a turning on and of the extra fuel tanks int the same way as cargo hatches or any other module would be a great adition.
Not only for fuel , but also for miners that mine ice rings There are lots of liquids there.

Or even create special bulk tanks for grain ,unrefined ores.

A great example can be found in shiping. each cargo type has its own type of storage to maximise its cargo capacity and logistics.

Frontier already has some mechanics in place for module spliting. with the srv bays
different types of cargo and classes (pasenger modules) extra fuel tanks , ordinary cargo holds .

This should not be that difficult to ad these mechanics to the trade/comodity and cargo systems.

Whith these in place a whole new era of trade exploration mining will be created.
