Newcomer / Intro Module power priorities

I'm trying to understand the use of module power priorities when you don't have enough power supply for all of your modules. I bought a Viper and put mostly A modules on it, and fitted a kill warrant scanner (13%) framer shift wake scanner (3%) and frame shift drive interdictor (1%). I am at about 110% power use. I set those 3 modules at a lower priority as well as the shield cell bank and cargo hatch. I can use the FSDI with no problem but the 13% draw of the KWS turns off life support and shields. Is there any way to use the KWS the way that I am fitted or do I have to take some modules off?

Thanks

You would want to keep the Shield Cells on priority 1.

Priority 1 = all you combat stuff including KWS, Cargo Scanner etc.
Priority 2 - FSD, FSD Interdictor, Fuel Scoop, Cargo Hatch etc.

Ok, that has me headed in the right direction, thanks. I can see the point of setting the FSD, FSDI and cargo hatch at a lower priority, and they would all shut down when I deploy hardpoints. However this does not seem to free up enough power for the KWS.

Edit - Did a little more testing. For some reason my cargo hatch is staying powered up even when I set the priority down to 2 or 3, and life support that is set at priority 1 is shutting down.

In a Viper you may not have enough capacity to run an A rated KWS, dropping to a lower class will consume considerably less power and the only impact is you needing to be 500m closer to scan.
The thing that's crippling your power is the KWS.

After getting some advice on a similar thing... how about just switching some modules off completely unless you are actually using them or about to use them. Cargo hatch, Fuel Scoop some of the other scanners in combat ... life support down to 5 etc ?

Highlighting the module and hitting the space bar turns the module on or off... look at the box to the left

Turning life support off is never a recommendation. .. turning the priority down to 5 is however

I'm sure the OP stated he was running a ship at 110% in post #1 ??

One trick you can use is to set the FSD and other essentials to 3, and set your weapons to 2. Then manually shut of the KWS, and keep it off until you want to scan, and switch it back off when finished so you can fire weapons.

However, I'd recommend just downgrading your scanner if possible. The high rated scanners draw insane amounts of power.
