Engineers module storage timer?

Hi CMDR's
I just checked a couple of modules I have in storage and the had a time on them.
Is there a time limit on module storage?
What happens when the timer runs out?
and
If it means I lose everything ......... why is there no warning when you store the stuff?

moduls with a timer are those in transfer (from one station to the other).

you don't loose anything.
