Modules and Avoiding EXPENSIVE disasters !!!

OK, long story short I could have been forced to sell my Anaconda as I stranded it in a system without a module (Frame Shift Drive) large enough for an escape range jump.
.
I inadvertently SOLD my A6 FSD as I wanted to outfit another ship for some combat.
I played around doing combat etc and all was good with the world.
I saved and exited at the end of the game play and went to bed.
TODAY, I got back on and loaded up my Anaconda at the same station.
When I went to purchase my A6 FSD back the outfitters there only had a best module of A3.....
This allowed a jump range of only 2.7Ly and no system was within 4.3Ly.
I swore a lot and thought i'd have to sell my Anaconda and lose some 50Mil on the deal (as some other modules were unavailable to dump at this station).
.
I then remembered if you SELL a module it is there as long as you don't exit or leave that station.
So I went and bought a Type 6. The default FSD on this a an E4.
This was then SOLD at the outfitters.
I then swopped back to my Anaconda and BOUGHT the E4 back giving me a 4.7Ly jump range.
This allowed me to get to the nearest system for a proper refit (I could have thrown away 10% on a Type 7 and got a E5 for a larger jump range).
.
So this neat little trick allows you to get rare modules to get you out of a mess.
.
Losing 100k on the Type6 is better than 50mil on the Anaconda.
.
Thought I'd share if anyone else accidentally found themselves in this situation.
.
Regards
Blitz

I had the same experience when buying my T-7. The default drive would not let me get to the nearest star. I had to ferry it over to another station with SC to get a 10.x LY drive and that got me out of the system.

nice trick and good presence of mind, thanks for sharing.

We do need some way to store modules. Among other things.

with respect no we dont its part of the game mechanic. you have a liimited time to rebuy modules you sell and thats fair enough.

if your gonna sell your modules for something else make sure you do it at a station where you can purchase the item back if its in stock.

you dont buy a custom fully kitted lamborghini form a used car sales man and like wise in ED not every station kits for what you may want tis the main element of the economy when it come to out fitting and common sense.

Something similar almost happened to me when I was looking to get a Viper. Thankfully I remembered that pretty much every post about the Viper mentioned that its range is annoyingly short, so I checked that first and moved to another system to buy.

But being used to the Adder, I still managed to strand myself without fuel in orbit around a lonely star... the next time I tried that trip I had a fuel scoop :)

It's all about being focused in what you do. It is dangerous out there!

agreed and thats half the challenge and the gratification once you find those modules / hardpoints you want. (agreeably sometimes a little forum help to locate some places kitting out certain things is a help) but to have a storage element for modules would be pointless.. ppl would buy all the best they can get store them then never go on the hunt for the best tech ever again.

Seeing as everything is modular, there should be a way to store modules instead of being forced to sell them. Same as you do with ships.

I'll go further out and say that a courier system would be nice: pay a non-trivial amount to have a stored ship delivered to whatever far away system you managed to find yourself. Suggested limitations: one real-time day delivery time, inhabited space only. Possibly a limit to range or number of jumps.

ppl would buy all the best they can get store them then never go on the hunt for the best tech ever again.

There is no hunting for tech... just go to the nearest high tech system.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who did this. I inadvertantly did this with my First Cobra.

Now I'm VERY CAREFUL buying modules.

ok on the courier system for ships stored, YES i agree for a cost and your suggestion on that is a plausible idea. but modules NO WAY.. it would open up too much element for ppl being maxed out all the time without traversing the galaxy to find the kit they need. it would be come too convenient if ppl stored stuff and then swapped out every two mins its not the nature of ED in game style in fact thats more a STO etc style..
however the shipping cost for your stored ships i will agree with you on.

Additional----

thats not true im afraid a s some ships are only capable of getting their modules from empire or federation spacific stations (the clipper and the drop ship for example on thngs like bulk head armour)

and not all C3 weapons (especially gimbled are at every high tech star port)

Nobody that I know of needs to swap stuff all the time, or travel the galaxy for it. If you are worried about some kind of exploit, there can be a refit timer. Convenience is exactly what it is about. Getting the modules you need is not some kind of a quest, you just go to a station that has them. The point is what you do once you are there: being able to store modules that you don't use would be convenient. It wouldn't change anything, you still would have to go there and get them the first time.

It is indeed part of the actual game mechanic but does it mean it should stay like that, or does it make it a good thing?

I for one would enjoy to be able to store modules, in a given station (with a delivery system, sure why not, yes indeed). Maybe it's only a rich problem, but it is annoying when you pilot an Anaconda, for instance.
I have all those greats modules gathered from god knows where. Guns, etc. No idea where I bought them, certainly not in the same station. If I want to trade, I need to drop some modules and possibly some guns to gain weight, jump range, cargo. And boy, in the current state of affaires, one does not want to drop modules. It's like "forfeiting your build".

I should probably be more organized and note down the name of system / station whenever I buy a module. That would do the trick, I guess. But I sure wish we could also just store the dam things in one station, maybe even have some "loadouts" options you could switch to, in hangar of said station. Like, you know, "trade" "BH 1 laser beams" "BH 2 Cannons" "BH3 WING" "Mining" "Exploration", and so on.

Anyways, this sort of is a rich problem, so I wouldn't expect a change anytime soon.
