Money for granting to live?

just had an encounter with a nod trader who wrote me he would give me money if I let him live - is this just a text or how would I get some money out of him?

Wasnt sure so I destroyed the ship....

If this happens again have a look at your Transaction tab to see if there is a transaction to accept at a station.
