in general I agree that money comes extremely easy.
One part of the solution could be to add more costs to the game to make the money flow the other way too.
I have made several proposals to achieve this and I hope to see some of it implemented some day.
One of the simplest, most basic things I would like to see implemented are docking fees. I really do not get why they are not in the game. Docking fees have always been in the previous games.

I'm glad my initial play-through was before the economy collapsed. There were some exploits back then (R2R was a common one), but they were highly optional. Now it's almost impossible not to get rich (and make Elite) quickly.
Funny thing is, I still am as likely to be flying a Sidewinder (albeit a very expensive one) these days as I am the Anaconda.
