I remember my first "pocket" calculator, back in the early 1970's. It had this strange symbol on one of the keys, and when I asked the grown ups, they said "That's pi". Since they all knew it, I decided that I had to learn it. Memorizing pi gets exponentially more useless, the more numbers you learn

Why learn Pi when you can measure it on the go? Just take 1 length unit of thread and let it be the radius of your circle to roll.
