Money-making and why I feel demotivated to get high-end ships

I'm in a sidewinder. I know it has awful cargo capacity, I'm running it with no shields at 10 tons of cargo. I'm making about 10k profit on average each landing. Now, in terms of costs of upgrades to a ship (lasers, shields, systems) this is a pretty decent amount.

But the next ship I would like to upgrade to is the Cobra Mk. III, at ~380k of CR. And later ships cost upwards of 1m CR.

There seems to be massive gap in ship prices, It's pretty steady until you get to the ASP (~6.7m), and then jumps to 22.3m for the Imperial clipper.

So how do I make CR faster so I can stand a chance of earning the CR required to buy the majority of the ships?

The hauler is your ticket to a cobra. Upgrade it to 16 tons and you can run those 10-20K missions, or turn a nice 8-20k profit if you find a nice trade route.

Once you get a cobra with upgraded 36-40 ton cargo space, those higher paying 40k+ missions become doable, and pure trading also becomes much more profitable.

However, if you are really concerned about making profits, your number one goal should be to get yourself into a Lakon6 and upgrade it to 100 tons ASAP. You can make 80-120k a jump. Find yourself a nice route and you can make a million credits an hour.

As for the really expensive ships? You'll never own them all. Not unless you have nothing else to do with your time. I honestly have no idea how anyone will be able to buy, outfit, and maintain an Anaconda. It's the raid level loot of ED I suppose.

Isn't the game launching with 25 pilotable ships; with 5 more coming later?

We don't have access to that many, so hopefully those gaps will be filled ;)

  1. Imperial Clipper.
  2. Asp.
  3. Sidey.
  4. Federal Dropship.
  5. Eagle.
  6. Hauler.
  7. Viper.
  8. Cobra.
  9. Anaconda.
  10. Type-6.
  11. Type-9.
  12. Orca.

We've still got a long way to go!

is a lakon 6 medium or large ship? i know the 9 is a large. the only trade route anywhere near me thats short enough to be profitable (lot of anarchy systems ive been attacked in all around), tops out at 1 medium landing pad per outpost

like seriously, all i have is outposts, one system has 7, the other 4, another 1, only the system with 7 outposts has an actual station, but its an agricultural station that really doesnt want to sell/buy anything profitable for the outposts

:/

also, as for multi-ship ownership, doesnt it cost money to store ships? thats kinda sucky, i dont want to be locked into a single large freighter because i cant afford to store it long term to go play in smaller fighters

also QUICK QUESTION, does the free eagle count as a stored ship im going to have to pay for?

It scales up as you go, A Hauler can make 4 times as much. A cobra twice as much ontop of that, By the time you get to the type 9 you could make half a million a trip.

Lakon 6 is medium. If you do not like your surroundings, fly away. Buy a fuel scoop and set course in the general direction of Sol and you should find some good routes quick enough. Going between a high-tech/extraction and a industrial/refinery system is usually a good bet. Make sure they have at least an Ocellus station and a secondary outpost in each system. Then have a look for high/high deals.

Better deals are usually found on stations other than the primary one. Take any delivery missions available to stations you have not visited (check distance from primary star though). This will give rep to open more missions and let you scout out commodity markets at someone else's expense.

I'm a little partial to my Space Van Hauler. I've hauled a lot of crap in it. I've been mostly working on dog fighting and understanding the pirate/bounty system until we get some confirmation on a wipe. I'm not going to grind in a hauler for countless hours just to lose it all again in 3 weeks.

you can make decent money in a sidewinder if you take missions. just do a few superconductor/progenitor/palladium/platinum runs and you'll be able to get a cobra for like 300k

cobra beats hauler because you can get 40 cargo (10x sidewinder, 10x price) i stayed in my sidewinder until i had like 600k 'do

the problem is, im VERY far away from Sol, most of the systems around me are low security/anarchy, none have very many popolations, and of the stations ive checked so far setting up the meager trade route ive got, none are selling fuel scoops

I think its too easy to make credits so far. I started with a Sidewinder and 100c (never touched the free Eagle), ran missions getting 2-5k for each one, also did some exploration. When I hit 100k I purchased a hauler and started just doing straight trading. Starting making 14k a round trip that would take 15min. After doing that a while I looked around and figured out that I could do a 20k round trip in 10min. At the end of my playing on Sunday (so two days after release), I have a Cobra and 100k in credits and now making something like 38k a round trip in 10min. I expect to be in a Type 6 in no time.

Ya we don't even have half the ships that are planed.

I'm making 1,000's of CR's just selling exploration data - have done any trade missions yet (well tell a lie - did one where they wanted something I could buy in the same station!). Only using the basic discovery scanner atm and flying around in my cobra !

I always hear people talk about Sol, what's the big deal behind it?

Not a lot that can't be found out there.

It's not like you don't have a spaceship to go pretty much wherever you want, so if you don't like the system you are in...well...you know...go somewhere else...or am I being too obvious here?

^ and also not to mention that Anaconda is not even a fun ship imo - it handles like a whale and it isn't really fun to rely on turrets to win fights.

The biggest ship that is good enough to be a "fun" ship out there at the moment is ASP or Imperial Clipper. Any higher you will just feel like a truck driver all day lol.

Don't bother going to Sol there's not much money to be as you have to curry favor with the Feds before they will give you any missions with a decent payout. The only reason to go is sight seeing.
