Monitor advice needed

Depends on specific settings and in-game location. Vanilla ultra, with no extra driver options or .xml edits will only dip below 60 fps at 4k in some icy RES sites and the most complex surface terrain on those parts.

4k is way beyond reasonable for a 1050 Ti. That card is 1080p medium-high territory.
A friend just told me that the 3080 should be out soon, so the price of the 2070s should drop. Might wait till then.

would someone mind posting a cockpit image from a 1440 screen? I, too, am looking to going to a 1440p ultrawide and I'd like to see what I get first :)

This is 16:9, not ultrawide, but it is 2560 x 1440 if you "view image" (right click on the imgur image page, not the image in the post )

(I would stick a jpg on the forum but that defeats the object as compressing the data reduces it's sharpness.)

Thank you Commander.

I was hoping for more of a vertical view, rather than a higher resolution of the same view. On an ultra-wide, there is a wider view.

One more question, is the higher resolution worth it?

If you do as I said - click on the image to open the imgur page then right click on the image on there and select "view image" then click the + sign mouse pointer on that image (to see the source resolution) you get to see the whole 2560 wide and 1440 pixel high image (you will have to pan and tilt your browser window since you are on a 1080 monitor). Alternatively you can click the imgur image page and select "save image as". Imgur does convert the 10.5MB bmp I uploaded (normal screenshot in ED) to a 2.27MB png but you can see the level of sharp detail.

So in that way you can see just how detailed the vertical (and horizontal) image is. (I cannot post a direct image of the size and detail as the file size is too large for this board to accept - unless I convert to a lossy jpg - see below.)

So yes 1440 is very definitely worth it, I am still on 16:9 rather than ultra-wide as when I do move up in monitor I want the screen to be taller as well as wider and I have not found a model to tempt me from my 27" so far.

So here is a jpg version, after clicking it you can "save image as" or "view image" to see the full size image but as I said, a bit less sharp than the bigger files:

Thanks. I did go to the imgur site and looked at the image and it looked really nice - but there's viewing it and playing it

I have a NVIDIA GTX 1050ti grahics and use a 42" 4K UHD Panasonic tv as a monitor for ED and watching movies etc never had any problems playing ED but use the game setting in the tv picture settings which optimizes the tv for gameplay. Otherwise I use my 10yrs old 24" monitor for internet usage etc. Doubt very much I could go back to playing ED on the small screen.

Monitor is one area where you should spend money. You can transplant that thing from one computer to another for years, so future proofing is a real thing here. Plus it's how you experience more-or-less everything on the computer. For me if you game at all then adaptive sync (freesync/gsync) is an absolute must.

In my home office I use my monitor for 8 hours a day when I am working, and often spend hours a day out of hours at it gaming and things. So I absolutely extract good value from improvements with it.

I'm a fan of 32:9 for elite. Since I got mine, I've pretty much retired my Rift S.
