Hardware & Technical monitor and graphic card?

Hi.
I´m convinced that this sim really deserves to be enjoyed and seen in all it grandeurs, so...
I´ve got a 22" monitor and a GTX660 video card (plus an intel I7 3770, 8gb ram). Lately I´ve been thinking on making an upgrade and change both, monitor and card... But as usual, budget is not too ample.

So my question:
What do you think of a GTX770 and a 27" 2560x1440? Some say that monitor size and resolution is the best you can get. It would be quite expensive too, but would it be worth it?

Another option could be to go after a cheaper 27" with a resolution of 1920x1200, but some don´t like it.

Others have multiple monitors, which is an option I do not discard...

Based on your personal experience, some enlightening would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

IMO if you're going to get a monitor that is 25 inches or bigger, you should go with 2560x1440. That's just me. There are some really nice looking 23 inch 1080p monitors but I wouldn't go any bigger than that. The main problem with the 1440p monitors is that they tend to have slower refresh rates. Get one that can be overclocked.

I've just built up a fantastic £2,000 rig and I would honestly say the best part of that was my Palit Super Jetstream 3GB 780 GTX.

Read some reviews of it, especially the in depth Hexus review where it challenges the Titan in benchmarks.

If you want high fps with high native resolutions, and maybe want OR functionality in the future, the 770 ain't bad, but an extra £100 goes a long way with this card.

AMD cards give a lot more bang for your buck, and unless you really need some Nvidia specific extensions (CUDA is the only real major issue), there isn't that much of a reason to spend the extra money.

Probably you should go for 2560x1440 resolution monitor.
As for the best resolution that you can get it is 4K but you will need the highest end GPU or two for it.
Choosing the GPU go for 3+GB Vram GPUs as the higher the resolution and graphic settings the higher Vram usage.

What do you mean slower refresh rate? Mostly 1440P monitors have at least 60Hz refresh rate.

Too general and not exactly correct. Everything depends on the current price and the performance of the GPU. So this should be checked before making the choice.

ever thought of 3 screen setup? I'm runnin' a GTX TitanBlack on 3x 32" screens... I wouldn't go back to one, not even a 4K one (which already needs a damn good graphic card if you don't want to drill down graphics.... cause 1x4K screen equals 4x 1080p screens!

The GTX770 is an excellent card, and a corker at the price.

If you have a nice TV, then try running it on that?...

I'm using my Sony Bravia 46", and I think it's the bees knees.

It will do the job until the Oculus Rift consumer version.:)

Fly safe Commander.

Read some reviews of the palit super jetstream 780 gtx. They have benchmarks, across a whole series of games.

There is enough reason in those reviews to spend that little extra and get this card, it's head and shoulders the best card under £400. When it beats the Titan across a range of games at high resolution (which the op referenced) it's worth checking out.

Sometimes it's worth spending a little extra.

Also GeForce experience is superb for people wanting to do video capture or streaming.

Monitor & Graphics Card/s choices

Interesting to hear what everyone has to say on this subject, Now I've built my first ever P.C. for this game and I've tried to go with what I thought would be best and after reading a lot of reviews I plumped for the Asus 780 ti dcII (which is great, no problems, fantastic bit of kit)

I've also pre ordered the Asus R.O.G. PG278Q Swift G-Sync monitor, which arrives next week, when I get it I'll let you know all about it. :)

I chose this monitor for its high refresh rate (up to 144hz), 2560 x 1440 resolution and most importantly the G-sync technology inside.

Yes I know its only a T.N. panel and very pricey, but it matches the rest of my system (oooh that red glow!)

I'd rather like one of those, mostly for the G-Sync - but it's way out of my reach, price-wise! I'd be interested to know how good the stand is. I had an ordinary Asus monitor briefly, but it had to go back as the stand was terrible.

I will tell you when I get mine. Pre-ordered it the 6th of July, still no delivery date.

Monitor graphics card

From the videos/pictures I've seen so far the stand is actually another one of the u.s.p.'s of the Swift... height adjustable, tilt adjustable, rotational, portrait mode, internal cable management and it glows red!

All the reviews I've seen have been positive do far will let you know about it next week, when mine turns up.

If anyone wants to buy a Swift I think Scan.co.uk will have a second delivery mid August, Overclockers .co.uk say they have some left of the first delivery but are more expensive. Alternatively if you really want to go 4k or 1080p with G-sync the Acer panels are set to arrive in october they are however a lot cheaper and they dont glow red

Great Monitor

Well I've had my Swift (Asus PG278Q) Monitor for over a month now, there was a slight delay but that's what happens when you order of the interweb.

WOW! (I know we are not supposed to use capitals but..) It's so good, I only had my 42" Bravia to compare it too but its like going fro S.D. to H.D. there's so much more to see in the game, detail I didn't even know existed, well done all you graphics guys!

I happily run along at about 90 fps most of the time no jaggies no stuttering it all looks so beautiful.

Well done Frontier, I can remember playing Elite on a little 14" CRT back in 84 on my Beeb. Thanks for making the game what I always imagined it to be!
