Hardware & Technical Monitors. Questions x 2

Greetings Commanders.

Question 1

Currently I have 3x 22 inch Samsung tn panel monitors that I'm pretty underwhelmed by. The viewing angles suck. The colour pallet sucks, there is no vibrancy, black appears grey etc. The backlighting is too bright particularly around the bottom of the screen.

I guess when they advertise gaming monitors they are light so the fps folks can see in the dark but I expect space to be black. After building myself a fairly top end rig to play ED and SC on (4790k,2x 970 sli, yada yada) my monitors are really letting the game down. I've spent a lot of time playing with the settings but nothing enthuses me.

Problem is that I totally blew my budget building the rig and don't have a lot of cash to splash on high end screens. So no 4k or even 100+mhz refresh rates for me :(
I've been trying to research what would be a good option but I'm finding a lot of contradiction in various reviews. and cant really go over about $700 au total for the new screens. Some of you will no doubt recommend occulus rift but I am already near sighted enough through gaming for 20 years and I'm concerned that such a short focal length would send me blind :p

So recommendations would be hugely appreciated. I don't have the desktop room for 3x27" so i'll have to settle for 3x24".
Thanks in advance!

Is there a way to minimise the fisheye/magnification effect on the side monitors? I believe that game developers could code the distortion out and tbh I am really disappointed that it is so pronounced in both ED and SC. SC is worse, much worse. Considering the ridiculously stupid amount of money CIG have made through pledges makes me wonder if CR is spending to much time and pledge money jetsetting around the globe instead of QA but I digress.
I'm reasonable computer savvy but no programmer which you might take into consideration in your replies. err if any haha

Thanks again for your time!

The side monitors are only really for immersion so you could probably buy a much nicer centre one and still keep 2 of the Samsungs and do a mixed resolution Eyefinity. That will only work if you have and AMD card though. It's what I use, I have a nice 1920x1200 IPS in the centre and two smaller 1680x1050's at the sides, and I get 5280x1000 Eyefinity out of it. It means that the centre screen has larger bands (or you can stretch the side screens more) but you hardly notice it while gaming.

First: Are your monitors 1080p?

Today you pretty much have to choose between fast TN panels (great for twitch games, poor for image quality) or slow IPS panels (great image quality, poor for twitch games). Unfortunately your budget will probably not be enough for 3 new monitors. Perhaps you can sell your 22" monitors?

Get a single high quality 1440p IPS panel instead. You can always add a couple more monitors later when you have had time to save up some money.

Just remember to study reviews. Cheap IPS panels can be worse than TN panels.
