Hardware & Technical Monitors these days

Hi guys

Just a bit of a "recommend me a...." thread

Ive had my monitor currently for the last 4-5 years or so. its this one:

I was wondering what you recommend for a monitor these days as im looking to maybe get a new one if theres anything around thats really worth it. looking in the region of 24-27 inch

My current GPU is a 780 GTX only 4 months old.

Willing to pay more for quality/performance rather than looking for a cheapish one that maybe isnt so good.

thanks guys!

I play on a 42inch full led tv.
For games that is fine not for writing , as bright can be truly very bright.
but no monitor makes this kind of fire real explosions.

I don't have any real recommendation except that there are some interesting 2560x1440 panels from korea. These only work on modern gfx cards but can be boosted up to around 100 hz, which gives you much smoother motion. They are cheap (250€ on ebay) and have Samsung PLS panels but the downside is that they might have a few defective pixels :p
I've been hunting for a new monitor as a supplement to my Dell 27 inch 1920x1200 but guess what? There are no more 27 inc 1920x1200 monitors :/
I don't know what to buy to complement my current monitor size and so I'm waiting, maybe higher refresh rates or oled monitors will be affordable soon.

I just recently bought a 24" LED monitor by ASUS with 1ms refresh and 144hz.
I would recommend a low refresh rate. After all, a great vid card can only be great if the monitor can keep up, right?

You mean a low refresh rate or a low latency? :p
From what I've heard faster refresh rates are really doing something for games and desktop.

I'm really quite disappointed in monitors these days, especially the crud they put in most laptops.

It seems the industry decided that Full HD was all anyone needed, stopped making higher res screens to save money. Idiot buyers fell for that and wouldn't buy anything that wasn't Full HD.

4k will maybe improve this, or 8k, but the mess of HD is something that should never happen again.

I' also waiting for 10bit consumer monitors to show up, 256 shades of gray are really not enough for movies with dark scenes (soory).

Low as in faster refresh rates (closer to 0ms is lower and faster). My older 23" LED was 5ms refresh rate (gray to gray)

Added: I got the 144hz in case I ever choose to go 3D (72 hz per eye would lessen flickering)
