MonoElite

Hello all,
Not sure if this is the right forum to post this question but, whilst wandering through the hallowed hall of Triple Elite players the other day it got me wondering:
Has anyone achieved Elite in one of the three core categories (Combat, Trade, Exploration (leaving CQC to one side)) whilst remaining at Harmless in one or both of the other categories ? ("Mono Elite", or "Bi ELite")
That would be a feat in & of itself, I reckon.
Anyway, got to fly, I appear to be being scanned by some weird looking octagonal craft........

P.S. Hello to Jason Isaacs

Tease.

I reckon that's practically impossible.

It could most certainly be done with Trade.

Exploration is a possibility but it would take a LONG time to afford a decent exploration vessel when you can only make money exploring in a sidewinder with a basic scanner. Doesn't sound like much fun.

Combat would be tough but doable if you rely on capital ships to finish your kills off in the beginning.

However, none of it could be proven. Unfortunately all it takes is a support email and you can have a rank reset to harmless. They were handing out resets like Halloween candy when the ai got an upgrade because many traders were ranked competent to expert and fought like mostly harmless and were getting slaughtered.

(I call it unfortunate because I think the idea is very appealing, but if it can't be proven that you explored your way to elite without a trade route or a cg or any such thing then it's less fun somehow. I don't know why.)

My exploration account is currently Harmless, however is heading out into the void to explore. The only reason I have 1 kill and not zero is the shock mines on my type 6 actually killed a pirate-winder... woops :)
But as you can tell, I had to trade to get the seed-money to get the exploration ship... click my sig for the videos...

Well, he said remaining harmless in one or both of the other categories.
It's no problem to do a bit of trade, no combat and become elite in exploration.
Even if you just did exploration in a sidey, by purely honking and moving on, you'll be in a hauler in no time.
The hauler is a useful early exploration ship.
All you'd have to do is to scrape the money together for an ADS, DSS and a half decent scoop. It's not going to take that long.
Novice in combat myself btw, and on my way back from an exploration trip that should get me to elite rank.
So while i can't exactly meet the conditions laid out by the OP, pretty darn close.
Yes, by all means possible i think.
If we ever get multiple commander slots, i'll give it a go. Would make for an interesting challenge.

A large chunk of the Sothis biowaste haulers, plenty of cmdrs Elite in trade whilst mostly harmless in combat/exploration, Mode switching & Logging off at the first sign of trouble would likely do it.

There are several players who are entirely passive, trying to maintain their harmless combat rank, there is at least one other who is attempting triple Elite in a Sidewinder.

Follow your own path, and leave a trail ;)

I think it's possible, might not be much fun and it would be quite restrictive on your gameplay. If you don't do missions or carry cargo your trade rank won't go up. If you avoid combat your combat rank will not go up and if you never turn in any exploration data and don't drive around in an SRV your exploration rank won't go up.

It took me 6 days to get a couple of million Cr from trading and fighting in my Sidewinder. That was enough to fit an ADS, DSS, 2A fuel scoop and 2A FSD.
6 weeks slow travel from the bubble to Colonia took over 1700 jumps and raised 42MCr... one quarter of the way towards Exploration Elite. In a Sidewinder.

It puts things in perspective to go exploring in such a small ship with limited jump range.

Yes, a well equipped Sidey can be a joy to fly, however 6 days of fighting and trading is enough to push you out of at least one Harmless slot, possibly both trading AND fighting, and into mostly harmless. As I said, an enequipped sidey, basic scanner, no more than 1000cr worth of equipment... that would be a tough way to begin exploring. I think 600k is going to be the minimum entry point for exasperation-free exploration. That's 500k for the intermediate scanner and 100k for some upgrades. How many systems would we have to scan to earn that first 600k? How many more for the 3.8m needed for a properly specced explorwinder. It would be a real challenge, though fun once you got to that point.

It's not the ship or it's jump range that are important to push your exploration ranking though, it's the scanners.
You fit ADS and DSS onto any ship and just keep faffing about within 2000ly of Sol, and you'll progress your exploration rankings just fine.
Not like the distance from Sol has any impact on exploration payout and progression at all.
Perhaps it should have, but that's not currently the case.

Combat ranking will fly up through the first rank if you actually ever fight.

Trade rank will go up ONLY through earning profit during trading (i.e. selling commodities earned through missions will not increase it), or by doing certain missions such as smuggling.

Exploration rank will go up through selling exploration data OR discovering new materials etc. (unless they removed this bit).

In effect, only trading can be easily ignored. You could reach Elite in combat/exploration and happily not do the trade bit, but I'd be surprised if a CMDR achieves this "challenge" without doing it deliberately, unless you go exploring straight off the bat without earning money through combat/trade and very much dedicate yourself to the pastime.

Amusingly enough I am 'mono Elite'. In exploration.

Deadly/tycoon in the other two. Not touched CQC.

OP specifically referred to being lowest rank possible elsewhere. Deadly/Tycoon are both not lowest ranks.

"Mono elite" is a poor term for it, but if you'd read the post...

lol. I won't bother explaining where I saw the humour in a topic called MonoElite and my CMDR name being mono and me being elite in case it goes over your head [up]

I'm out 21K LY from Sol exploring my 5,000+ system with Harmless combat rank. I should be Elite explorer on my return. I traded in a T-7 until I could afford to fit out an Asp, then headed for the big black.
Apologies. I looked last night and I'm "Novice" in combat. I guess my T-7 killed more ships than I thought. :D
