Monsters in asteroid fields

As I was flying thru an asteroid field (mining Void opals), I thought to myself "wouldn't it be really cool to fight some kind of monster in the asteroid field?". I was thinking something like the Chitauri Leviathan from Avengers Movies. Not too many Leviathan so that you are constantly running from them and not mining, but enough to allow you to hunt/be aware for them. Also, they can surprise you by popping out when you fly by. They roll up and look just like an asteroid, and they unfold when you get to close. Make them slow enough so that anyone who wants to avoid them can with booster, but you better be quick enough or you are dead. I was thinking about having three different sizes [large, gigantic, and Enormous]. The LARGE level monster [the size of the Chitauri Leviathan] can be defeated by at least a single competent level Commander. The GIGANTIC level monster [the size of the Chitauri Leviathan x 4] can be defeat by at least two competent level commanders. The ENORMOUS level monster [the size of the Chitauri Leviathan x 10] can be defeated by at least 3 Master level commanders.
 
I support the suggestion. I've also been calling for exploration to be at least somewhat dangerous for years. I love watching stars and planets and all, but sooner or later I get bored and wish I had something to do out there. SRVs and SLFs help a bit but ultimately I wish I had an incentive to bring at least a moderate warship into space.

Ehm, asteroids are also harmless unless provoked by repeatedly ramming them... In my experience, sometimes once is enough. :D

Jokes aside, the currently existing "dangers" are not worth mentioning. Not only are the not actually a danger, they are also very, very rare.

Also, as everything in Elite, completely optional, you can skip them altogether even when you do find one.
 
Please no. If you want more aliens, then just have more aliens in alien ships, not Star Wars cartoony mosters on small airless lumps of rock.
 
+1, just because I know I could settle for having Thargoid Scouts raiding miners. I know trying to define extraterrestrial aliens in terms of strategy is supposed to be a logical impossibility, but it strikes me as odd that Thargoids make no attempt to hit the places where humans are gathering resources used to build ships and weapons being employed against the Thargoids. They at least understand the concept of resource defense the same way we do in how they attacked all the stations we placed in the Witch Head Nebula.

Thargoid raid scenarios in RES sites maybe?
