So I thought the "how do i" part of the forum would be the best place for this, also requesting a "tips and tricks" part of the forum 
Anyway, I made an area for my park that is space themed, and decided I'd go for a nice moon type texture, and thought it came out pretty great, so I thought I would share how I made it.
Step 1: Paint your area with the red rock texture set to 100% intensity.
Step 2: Now select the sand texture and set it to 0% intensity, and slowly go over the red rock area you just painted.
Step 3: Now pick the snow texture still with 0% intensity, and go over the top until you're happy with the color / whiteness / grey, add a little bit of grey rock to certain area's for different patterns.
