Hardware & Technical More Bindings Questions

Ok,
If I can go into >>> C:\Users\whatever your user name is\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings <<< and edit line 2 “custom” to "MyBinds" and then in OPTIONS > CONTROLS a new offering of MyBinds will be available to select and it will have the binding I set up why can't I go into the same file and edit
<SetSpeed25>
<Primary Device="Keyboard" Key="Key_Insert" />
<Secondary Device="{NoDevice}" Key="" />
</SetSpeed25>

Changing the 25 to 33 (or whatever) and then save it and when I restart the game have the OPTIONS > CONTROLS offer me a setting of 33% speed?

I have made several attempts at this and it always reverts to 25% and that is indeed the speed the ship sets when I use the bound key.

I embarked on this adventure because as I have upgraded my ship, I now find that when I select 50% speed I am almost always dinked for speeding but as best I can tell, with my present modules, I can actually go at about 40% speed without "speeding".

I would like to make a dedicated 33% key.

Maybe it is just that there are only specific throttle settings that can be assigned. That's why I use the 25% coupled with engine pip management to maintain a sub-99m/s speed at stations. (It also acts to remind me if I have forgotten to actually load with cargo if my speed is higher that it should be for those pips - saved me from many an embarrassing situation.)

I have keys set to increment speed in 10% steps. I then use VoiceAttack to set speeds in 5% steps by telling it what I want. 45% is just right in my Asp Explorer.

Given that you can't edit the cfg as you want, have you tried a macro keys solution?

I had a private message from the lovely OP chappie. He/she was not able to reply to his own thread. My answer to him/her was thus;

Yes, I didn't explain myself very well did I?

So I have Throttle Increments set to 10%. I have Increase Throttle mapped to Left Shift and I have Decrease Throttle mapped to Left Control. With that alone I can set throttle to 10% 20% 30% etc.

I then have Set Speed To 0% mapped to 5, Set Speed To 25% mapped to 6, Set Speed To 50% mapped to 7, Set Speed To 75% mapped to 8 and Set Speed To 100% mapped to 9.

So to go at a speed of 45% throttle I can press 6, Left Shift and Left Shift again. 25 + 10 + 10 = 45.

VoiceAttack allows me to press one key, or say a phrase, that can press several keys for me. I expect other macro key programs are available.

So I can add key presses for 6, Left Shift and Left Shift again to a single key, say A for Approach Speed, and it will set my speed to 45%.

Hope that helps clarify my approach to the problem.

As for your problem about replying to your own thread, I am completely baffled.
