Started a thread in the dangerous discussion trying to find ways to progress as a fighter/bounty hunter. Thought a post here is probably what I should do, so here are some thoughts to fill out the limited fighting side of the game:
1) More assassination mission types, not just elite anaconda, varying number of targets and skills and rewards. Give the ship type and maybe pilot skill in the mission info.
2) Missions like the incursion tutorial. You have to go somewhere and fight waves of enemies. Tiered rewards depending on how many waves you defeat. Ideally it'd get gradually harder so it's a question of when you die or run not if.
3) Outpost defence missions. Go help defend an outpost against pirates, like the waves of attackers in #2 except you're at a station, which might help fire on enemies if they get too close.
4) Anarchy/Pirate base attack. Pirate systems populated only by pirate ships all with bounties by default. If you attack some small ships, big backup will arrive to defend them.
5) Espionage missions like in first encounters. You have to photo an opposition base, maybe a specific module in a science outpost, but if spotted they'll send some ships to attack you. Obviously better once planet landings are in, but could still be fun and encourage a bit of stealth.
I'm sure there are way more possibilities, but these seem fairly simple to add and would give some variety to the existing go sit in a RES and fight cobras.
