More Endangered or Critically Endangered Species

Why? Genuine question. What would change for the animal in real life if it were in the game, even when if it might not be really widespread in zoos? There sure are some animals I'd like to see that are endangered. But mainly because I often see them in a zoo or they personally mean something to me. Breeding pixel animals does not really help critical endangered species and I come to a point after two years where, as much as I love this community, most really do not see or use PZ for education purpose (and that's totally fine!) They would, for example, see the asiatic lion as a clone of the west african lion, not caring if it is critically endangered or not.

I don't think choosing animals for statuses would be a good way to go. That doesn't mean we couldn't have a critically endangered pack with critically endangered species that are common on zoos. But for any other packs, I would definately choose different parameters.

Even if they don’t want to, people learn about conservation and animal welfare from the game just as, when playing Civilization (for example), they learn about history, even if they don’t intend to. Including endangered species adds to awareness, even if only incrementally. Most people probably don’t go to zoos to learn about endangered species. Nevertheless, they do.

I would also argue, from a non-scientific background of course, that the climate crisis and rapid destruction of habitat in many parts of the world means that all species are ultimately endangered.

I’m not saying that all animals are of equal concern but just because a species is doing ok today doesn’t mean it will be ok tomorrow.
Some species, for example, the species I study (a lizard), will benefit from climate change (in terms of distribution). Of course, that doesn’t mean climate change is ‘good’ in any sense…. My models show that two other species will likely be displaced / driven to extinction as a consequence of competition. Not all species are endangered by climate change - some will benefit, some will be negatively impacted, some won’t be seriously affected. Some species (e.g., rats, crows, pigeons, foxes) benefit from habitats being disturbed. Climate change will be / is (very) bad, but it’s not so bad as to destroy life on earth.

I’m not suggesting it is. Nonetheless for a variety of reasons, it could be argued that all species are potentially vulnerable to extinction or dramatic population decline for a variety of reasons and none can be taken for granted. For example rural hedgehog populations in the UK have declined by 50% in the last 20 years.

I mention this because some critics of zoos argue that they aren’t serious about conservation because they maintain populations of species with less pressing conservation status but the situation is actually more complex and unpredictable.

There is one Species that might've recently went extinct due to Climate change, so it can be at least dangerous for Amphibians that only live in small Areas
Don’t get me wrong - I am not, at all, saying that climate change isn’t bad. It is and will result in the extinction of many, many, many species. Some species will, however, benefit. The net result will be (it is doing so already) a drastic reduction in biodiversity which (IMO) is an incredibly bad result. For some species it is hard to predict what the results will be because of the complexity of ecosystems and the complex relationships among species.
I am not in any way trying to downplay the effects of climate change (quite the opposite) but, as with other human impacts, a few species are likely to benefit, though at the expense of many, many more. There is no question at all that the net effect will be a less diverse, less interesting and hugely diminished world. Climate change (and related processes) is, without question, the major challenge currently facing humanity. COVID is nowhere even close in comparison.

Some of them aren't even kept in any Zoos but there are many other Animals on this List that I would love to see in the Game

I wouldn’t want to see species that aren’t found in captivity like the Ethiopian wolf or very rarely and in a specific range like the Sumatran rhino.

In fact I’d find in-game breeding campaigns and releasing to the wild an animal like the Sumatran rhino somewhat distasteful given the actual peril the species is in.

I think the most educational and perhaps interesting approach to this, would be to call the DLC 'Conservation Pack' rather than calling it 'Endangered Species' or similar.
Keep the focus on species zoos do direct conservational work with and species zoos have been an important part of helping back from extinction over time.

Yeah thats cool, maybe even with an actual management overhaul in the free update concering the cc and the releasing system, making it harder to cheese and the system rather be more about wellfare and the breeding of healthy children, making it actually important to not have your zoo placed in Alabama.
Having the focus on breeding, wellfare, geneticts and also how endangerd they are would already make a huge improvement to the farms we have right now.
I actually took care of my tigers to not have incest, which was quite fun, but the most of the cc came from my tortoises, nyalas and red pandas, which were inbreed as heck, but no one cared.

Would absolutely love the Introduction of something like a Wilderness Survival System (if it is possible) where the Animals need to be provided special Enrichment and other Things to raise their Survival Skill. Also the Possibility that the Release could fail and maybe even the Ability to give a Animal you really like, a Computer Chip so you can look up a Update in Text Form how your Animal is doing. Of course leucistic and albinistic Animals would have it harder to survive with a high Possibility that it will fail, while Animals like black Jaguars might even have a Advantage. I would also still like for the Release Option to be renamed for Animals like the Llama to something like ,,send to Farm". It's fine for the Domesticated Bactrian Camel because it has Populations in the Wild

making it actually important to not have your zoo placed in Alabama.
😂

Huh?

Cincinnati Zoo ran a successful breeding programme with them for a good many years. The only reason they stopped was because of the dwindling wild population, which made it impossible to establish a captive breeding programme. I respect your view but being able to recreate and succeed at such a thing in the game with such a unique and special animal would be fantastic.

It wasn’t successful enough to establish a viable population out of range. I just find the Sumatran rhino story depressing and disheartening and feel “succeeding” in-game would almost make a mockery of the real life failures. I get why you want them but for me it’s a no.

That sounds kinda dumb honestly... all animals in this game breed like rabbits; is it a mockery when we breed more endangered animals in a single game year than reality does in forever?
