More Landable Planets?

With No Man's Sky a few weeks away now, I was wondering if FD were planning a 'counter attack' as it were, and release a few more planets we can land on?

Currently airless is the only ones, but some others should be fairly 'easy*' since most of the groundwork(pun) is laid already.
Even if they weren't quite finished, it would revitalise ED all over again.
For example, weather aside, why can't we land on other dead planets, (like 2016 Mars), after all, the only 2 things missing would be re-entry mechanic, and weather.
Same goes for water world's actually, re-entry and weather, again. Both I could happily live without for a few months/years, until they're added.
And as for underwater, I don't even know if FD are planning that at all(?), but could be an extra expansion years down the line.

*obviously it's not easy, but if they just basically let you zoom around dead planets with an static atmosphere, I'd still be overjoyed!

What are your thoughts?

BTW I'm not saying NMS is actually going to steal all of players EDs or anything, or even be any good. Just sayin', FD will now have more competition.
Although I am intrigued by NMS!

Even if the planet is lifeless, atmospheric flight physics will require a lot of devolpment, there will be lighting effects, etc. Not gonna happen until at least next season.

Agreed, I'm waiting on a few reviews of NMS before I commit...it's loking right up my street, as long as I can walk around Kb and mouse then pad for space flight I'll be happy, if it's pad only on planet then it's a no no for me as I just cannot do FPS with a pad. I digress!.....I would be happy if FD let us land on a few more types of planet with placeholder (although not "too" placeholder so to speak) graphics, then add the effects and whiz bang graphics over time. I know loads of people would NOT be happy with that though.

True, I forgot about lighting. It'll be alittle pants if that looked wrong/bad.
Most of the physics could be tacked on later, along with re-entry and things though.

Still, I'd prefer they didn't rush anything and release junk. I was just wondering if FD were concerned about the effect on sales and player migration when NMS drops, and planned anything to counter it. ??

NMS has a very very simplified version of the whole thing, and doesn't seem to care about composition of atmosphere and similar, heck I wonder if there is even planets without life?
Their approach is basically the same approach spore did, which there is nothing wrong with and can be very fun.

But Elite is going for an entirely different approach, as can be seen by for example just how insane the non atmospheric planets look, and the terrain looks realistic in shape, rather then clearly generated as many other games (even space engine) ends up having.

Add that there also is different atmosphere compositions, densities and pressures, it is quite something.
That said I hope they begin adding more stuff to planets we already have, volcanism amongst other things, make heat actually affect something, right now you can land on a planet right next to a sun with a surface temperature that is insane and nothing really happens, now granted shields can obviously handle quite a bit, at the very least it would be nice with some sound effects, like if you are too close to a sun you can hear the hull stretching and heating up, sizzling. These kinds of details are needed anyway for atmospheric entry and such, so adding them prior to those seems smart.

That said it would also be cool if there were planets you'd need to for example have a strong shield to even consider landing on, or a mod to srv to be able to handle the extreme temperature and such.

Aren't we getting Volcanic Planets this season? So there's one more type but still not atmospheric.

That's the impression I'd gotten as well.

As for NMS, it's going to be an explorer's dream for awhile in a way that no other sci-fi game at the moment can match. I'm going to be getting it solely for that. Anything else with it, is just a bonus imo.

I can't wait for volcanic landings.

I found a system with 3 huge ringed volcanic world's, with one with an ELW in orbit. Lol
I also hope we get a way to see where we've been, cos I won't be finding that again otherwise. Lol

Key words, there, seems to going to be spore like exploration, though yes, bigger planets, but no 'bad' planets? lifeless? no moons? we haven't really seen any of this though they've said it is there.
We will see I guess, I'm going to play it, but how much I couldn't say, probably mostly as relaxation game when I need a break from stuff.

The features OP talks about will come but later and probably not this year, I'm impressed with airless planets even if without atmosphere they all look mostly the same, they are like moons but the size of a real planet with mountains, valleys etc... Planets with atmospheres and life will come along with walking around shooting features, just be patient, I can see the day we will go walking into a forest hunting some creatures, I think Mr Braben talked about it some time ago, all these features are in plan and will eventually be added to the game, not sure what season.
