More star visuals

Every star looks like "the sun" star, Sol

maybe it's just me but a little variety, or better yet a lot of variety, would be pretty cool. IMHO

Yeah for all the work that went into the Stellar Forge the implementation into the game visuals is less amazing.

Red giant stars for instance.

Or the extremely flat Achernar.

Maybe it's not the most important point, but it could be a major cosmetic improvement with some extra wow-factor.

It would probably be quick & easy to spice up, too.

What I might suggest is this: get rid of the homogeneous flares that are exactly the same on every orange star, and using a simple big-orange-sphere template, implement some function in the client for adding variety based on the star's mass and the current time and date, like:

star.flourish(M,gmtime)

where M is magnitude, and gmtime is the current time and date for generating or seeding some differences, and what the function returns is some variations for hue/contrast/brightness and things like sunspot/flare/corona flavor.

I don't know much about the galaxy-generation procedure (is that the Stellar Forge?) and I'm no expert on the current science/sci-fi explanation of a star's constitution, but I'd guess the next relevant variable would be age (& I wonder if that's already a variable somewhere in ED.) In a perhaps-oversimplified way, a star's main characteristics could be derived from just it's mass and age.

star.flourish(M,A,gmtime)

Beyond that the variables probably start to get exotic, maybe including things like spin, charge, strange density, speed, ambient gravity well depth, who knows.

Just brainstorming
