More than 1 ship

whats the point .
I was Hoping like 2/3 save games , one in sol with my cobra .

Where I could play like a saint .
one in freeport in my Asp I could play like a pirate ....etc.

or I could play 1 game for the Empire,
The other Game Federation.

Mislabeled thread. It was promised and will likely appear in the game later. But multiple ships you can already own within the same save.

so let's say 3 ships in 3 different locations, so you can switch between them w/o traveling?
but... you can't be in 3 places at the same time! so... maybe add a way to travel from one station to another? like paying an npc for a taxi drive, or even other player!

play like a saint in a cobra in one factions space, then park it and pull the asp out to go pirating in another factions space (independents are good for that)

not perfect, but with one character and 2 ships you can do both right now

I have a Type-7 for trading and an Asp for pew-pew. Switch between them when I get bored with either profession. When I get a Python I might switch it up and get a mining rig, for variety.

Of course you have to travel. The idea is to have different purpose ships pre-outfitted for your needs. For example you may have 2 cobras. One for fighting and 1 for smuggling. These need completely different internal compartments. Or you may have 2 Asp's as well.. One for exploring into deep space and another to mine once you've found a location. Yes it is a bit awkward to go all the way back to get your other ship but it is a feature and the game is designed to be realistic.

The idea is that you move your ships closer to where you will spend most of your time and is suppose to help stop you having to lose money every time you want to change ship to try something else.

being able to store ships means once you have one fitted out for a particular task you don't have to go part hunting if you want to play that role again, i have my Cobra fully fitted as an explorer and have stored it while i use my type 7 to trade at starports, i also have a type 6 i can use for outpost trading if i want to boost my rep by taking missions to them.

I have multiple ships, easiest way to keep track of them is to choose your home system and starbase and fly all of your ships there, keep them in one place, makes it easier to swap and change, the only way to do this is to buy the cheapest ship at the dock, fly to your other ship swap over and sell the cheap one and fly back, it will cost you alittle but the only way to group your ships together

Its also a way to avoid putting all your eggs in one basket. If you keep your old ship when you buy a new one you'll always be able to go back to your other ship should something silly happen (like boosting through a station wall with a hold full of palladium and not having the insurance cost 'cause you invested all your cash in your cargo on your first run in your new ship).
.
Its surprising how many players upgrade and trade-in, take the chance on flying without insurance then find themselves back in a free sidewinder with no credits to their name.

Currently imho there is no point having more than one ship unless you have the best equipment for it and you dont want to go for parts hunting.

I have:

  1. Type 7 for trading
  2. Viper for combat
  3. Eagle for combat, for when I just feel like it
  4. Cobra for exploration (has mining capabilities for a little boost to income while exploring)
  5. Adder as a runabout and heading between my federal and imperial bases

I tend to optimise ships around a single role. I could replace the Cobra with an asp, but I have a long and tear filled history with asps and my husband has presently banned me from flying them :)

I have a Type-6 and bought a sidewinder with updated frame shift just to check nearby trading potential. Seemed like a worthwhile small investment.

Hi, what happens when you have multiple ships and you die?
Another question, if I want to change my "home" system the only way to transfer my ships is to buy a taxi, go there swap and sell the taxi?
