Compreensive list of dinosaurs (canon and non canon) that should be included in the game at some point.

For this list I tried to pick more unique dinosaurs that could be easily distinguised from dinosaurs already in the game and could bring something new to the table.

Feel free to give other suggestions;

-

Ankylosaurs.

Zuul (?)

Minotaurasaurus (?)

Canon

Elaphrosaurus (could be a included as a slender omnivorous ornithomimosaur lookalike)

Euoplocephalus

Herrerasaurus

Pachyrhinosaurus

Proceratosaurus

Rugops

Teratophoneus

Ceratopsians

Diabloceratops

Einiosaurus

Nasutoceratops

Udanoceratops (or Avaceratops or Zuniceratops)

Xenoceratops (this coud be replaced by Albertaceratops, Medusaceratops or any other ceratopsian with more ornate heads).

Hadrosaurs

Shantungosaurus (as the true gigantic – T.rex sized – hadro).

JPOG

Acrocanthosaurus

Alioramus (or Xiongguanlong – as the long snouted tyrannosaurs)

Dryosaurus

Ouranosaurus

Tenontosaurus

Thescelosaurus

Yangchuanosaurus

Novel reference

Callovosaurus
Mussaurus
Ornitholestes?

Other movie references

Agujaceratops (?)

Alamosaurus (as the true giant and armored sauropod)

Concavenator

Datousaurus (mentioned in the JP3 junior novel as the corpse the T.rex was eating).

Pachycephalosaurs

Tylocephale (tallest dome of all the pachys) ???

Prenocephale??

Raptors

Austroraptor

Sauropods

Amargasaurus

Brontosaurus (as the accurate ‘Apato’. Fat-necked, spikes and all).

Europasaurus (or Magyarosaurus)

Nigersaurus

Lingwulong (or Brachytrachelopan or Bonitasaura)

Saltasaurus (or Ampelosaurus)

Small carnivores

Coelophysis

Masiakasaurus

Tanycolagreus

Small herbivores

Chilesaurus (could easily fill the Dryosaurus niche)

Macrocollum (or Unaysaurus)

Oryctodromeus (with burrowing behavior)

Struthiosaurus

Zalmoxes (instead of Dryosaurus?)

Stegosaurs

Dacentrurus (or Miragaia or Alcovasaurus)

Hesperosaurus or Tuojiangosaurus (these two are the only stegosaurs that look slightly --- SLIGHTLY – diferent from others already in the game).

Tyrannosaurs

Albertosaurus

Zhuchengtyrannus (or Tarbosaurus)

Nanuqsaurus (as the dwarf tyrant)

Other suggestions

Australovenator (or Megaraptor)

Centrosaurus

Cryolophosaurus

Ichthyovenator

Monolophosaurus

Nemegtosaurus (armored sauropod with really strong legs)

Plateosaurus

Psittacosaurus

Sinosaurus (as the accurate Dilo lookalike)

Torvosaurus

Turiasaurus

Vagaceratops

If feathered versions are implemented

Anzu or Citipati / Oviraptor

Deinocheirus

Gigantoraptor

Therizinosaurus

Yutyrannus

If truly small dinosaurs are implemented

Compsognathus

Halzkaraptor

Microceratus

Segisaurus

Staurikosaurus (as a TLW The game homage)

Wannanosaurus

Notes:

** Hadrosaurus, Hoplitosaurus, Nipponosaurus and Peloroplites were omitted due to being extremely similar to other dinosaurs already in game.

** Wuerhosaurus omitted due to the likeness of it being too similar to Stegosaurus. The rectangular plates were a misinterpretation of the fossils.

** Homalocephale omitted due to it (probably) being just a juvenile Prenocephale (yes, I know the same could be said about Draco and Stigy).

Suggested behaviors:

** Lurdusaurus: omited from the list, but if introduced it would be cool to have a semi-aquatic hippo like version of the Iguanodon.

** Oryctodromeus (and possibly other small ornithopods): burrowing habilities.

** Spinosaurs: Should be allowed to fish.

Great initiative! Do you plan to update it as others suggest other dinosaurs?

If I may make a suggestion for the readability of the post...
Right now you have a lot of catagories, some are based on taxonomy, some on game size type, and some on where they appear in canon. My suggestion is to just use either taxonomy or game size type as categories and to show whether a dinosaur is present in the films, books or games with a certain colour.
So for example orange for games, green for the books and blue for the films (either shown or mentioned)

So a short list of theropods could look like this:
Acrocanthosaurus
Ornitholestes?
Herrerasaurus
Teratophoneus

This way the list can be shorter and more easily readable.
Perhaps there should also be an indication as to how popular a suggestion is? Ouranosaurus and Therizinosaurus for example seem to be quite popular suggestions.

Now there's a few dinosaurs I'd like to suggest as well. Some I've seen suggested elsewhere, and others I personally would love to see in the game.

Hadrosaurs (I like hadrosaurs)
Telmatosaurus - smaller european hadrosaur
Tethyshadros - primitive with weird beak
Saurolophus
Amurosaurus - just pretty
Magnapaulia - giant

Theropods
Oviraptor - more known than other oviraptorosaurs
Gorgosaurus or Albertosaurus - more slender tyrannosaur

Sauropods
Shunosaurus - spiked tail!

I think you mentioned most of the other important ones though.

That is a great idea actually. The different categories were named that way for people to understand it more easily.

Oviraptor was omitted in favor of Anzu (basically a raptor sized oviraptor) and / or Citipati (the oviraptor template). Oviraptor itself is known from poor remains and all of its reconstructions are based on Citipati anyway.
-
I really wanted to include Shunosaurus, (really cool sauropod), but cut it because of Ankylodocus.

You really need to work on the categories... they're confusing and often redundant... I agree with the guy above; don't make categories based on references in other Jurassic material, put the animals in proper categories and just make a note of it.

Try this...

Also your logic for why you include or exclude certain animals seems to be inconsistent...
** Homalocephale omitted due to it (probably) being just a juvenile Prenocephale (yes, I know the same could be said about Draco and Stigy).
You literally explain why this doesn't make sense... but also this "theory" is based on a lot of assumption, like Prenocephale being literally the only pachycephalosaur at its location and time period...

I really wanted to include Shunosaurus, (really cool sauropod), but cut it because of Ankylodocus.
This is silly... not only is Shunosaurus considerably distinct from Ankylodocus in terms of size and appearance, but if you're a guy like me, you want to be able to realistically reconstruct ecosystems... and you can't do that with a fake dinosaur...

You shouldn't concern yourself with similar looking species either; there's plenty of similar animals in the game already and half the time they just mutate them to give them distinct appearances anyways...

I have a Jurassic China exhibit with Mamenchisaurus, Huayangasaurus, Ankylodocus as Shunosaurus and Metriacanthosaurus as a juvenile Yanchuanosaurus that says otherwise. [big grin]

That was a quick list I made for reddit a some time ago. I know it has problems, I just tried to create categories that were easier for anyone to understand. Listen, if it was up to me I would have every single dinosaur in existence put into this game, but because we can't have that I went for dinosaurs that looked different enough.

Sorry about it. I really like yours though.

Good list but why exclude Homalocephale? We already have Dracorex, Stygimoloch, and Torosaurus. It's clear that Frontier doesn't care about whatever nonsense Horner is spouting.

Sauropodomorphs:

Plateosaurus
Brontosaurus
Amargasaurus

Therapods:

Megalosaurus
Concavenator
Therizinosaurus
Herrerasaurus
Coelophysis
Oviraptor
Compsognathus
Ornitholestes

Ornithopods

Lambeosaurus
Hadrosaurus
Ouranosaurus
Camptosaurus
Dryosaurus
Hypsilophodon

Marginocephalians:

Psittacosaurus
Protoceratops
Leptoceratops
Microceratus
Centrosaurus
Pachyrhinosaurus
Homalocephale

Thyreophorans:

Miragaia
Euplocephalus

Theropods*

Also, Herrerasaurus is not a theropod. It's too primitive.

Actually it depends on your definition of Therapoda. Some researchers classify it as within therapoda, others do not. I prefer that myself as it doesn't fit into any other major subdivision.
