Most efficient/valuable use of exploration data.

Hi guys.

Just curious what the best use of the exploration data is please. I know some CGs request this from time to time. I was also thinking I could use it to buy favour with sirius corp for the eventual Palin grind. Is there anything else that's worth considering for this data?

Cheers.

You could also use it to get other permits quite quickly: see this list for what else is out there. Or you could get better standing with any other minor factions if you want, and help increase their influence via the BGS if you'd be so inclined.
You can also level up some engineers with exploration data, although you can do that fairly quickly by just making stuff too.

Well I popped out to the statue of liberty nebula for my first exploration trip. Something like 6k light years and back. Got maybe 20 water worlds a couple of ELWs that hadn't been discovered also. Surprisingly profitable! Made maybe 20 ish million for the scanning. Unlocked Sirius with about 5 million of that, spent maybe another 7 over at quince to bring that place to ally status. The rest I'll toss at Palin when I'm halfway in the mood to unlock Zach Nemo then qwent.

Exploration is pretty good but it needs less placeholdery-feeling mechanics and maybe the odd surprise find in terms of materials and things to see out there. Really hope the post 2.4 deep dive in the core gameplay does lots of justice to the exploration gameplay.

Otherwise though pleasantly surprised but I don't think I could hack a trip to the far side of the galaxy.

This is what i wanted to hear.. or read... Im almost back home from a passenger trip to the Childern of raaxa staging post (7kly) I scanned every system and only did detailed surface scans on anything interesting. Found about 3 ELW a handful WWs and i was wondering how much i was gonna make when i get back. I should be back in the bubble by tomorrow night (i only play an hour here and there), but its a boring grind right now. If the payout is big as anticipated then ill give it a go again in a few months. But right now, tediously boring. Not my cup of tea.

No, exploration is not for everyone.

Personally, I love the Zen-nes of it.

In fairness I did listen a lot of radio 5Live and various podcast series while doing this. Think that's the key...be doing something else at same time. Which kinda says something for the mechanic a bit.

When you have all the ships and all the CR, it's nice to jump in a little dbx and go exploring. Kind of an endgame pleasure.

I ran exploration off a list. Sirius and Alioth are were at the top of my list, because of the discounts.

For the rest, it's worth SOME superpower rep, permits that only open up trade goods.

Never found anything else that jumped out as being overly great. Dumped a lot of data just for empire rep, wasted the minor-faction bonus because they were already ally.

Yeah I've found that putting data into getting the empire aligned faction at Quince really really useful. I'm getting lots of easy high paying missions to fluff the bank balance, many of the missions are dropping useful materials as a big bonus. This is handy as my next project is to fit out an anaconda for more trips out in the black.

So yeah glad I saved the exploration data for this and unlocked Sirius also with about 8 million left to disperse elsewhere and all for a few days spending maybe 2 hours a night going 6k light years to somewhere I hadn't thought I'd ever go.

In the black now. Something I haven't done, but might do with this trips payments, is to set up a local trade network. Insta-ally the leading factions in a close cluster of systems for access to more lucrative missions.

Ooooo, that's a good idea! That and the trade network notion.

when I came back from my 18 month trip (21,227 systems {424 pages}) of data. I made the mistake of not spreading it around for permits.
I had the tools to do it but I ended up being a coward and only working up to allied in both Fed and empire. regret it!
get your permits and do the ones that give discounts on ships.
some of the engineers like exploration data (see Farseer) I'm sure there are others but check 1st... not all want or care about it.

You could always drop it off at some station controlled by Hutton Orbital Truckers Cooperative.

Using it for permits seems like the best idea to me though.

is it worthwhile to wait handing in exploration data for a community goal that requests exploration data? I've been thinking about doing that, i'm close to Colonia.

If you haven't any other pressing need for various factions to get rep with I'd say so for sure. Money for nothing really.

Is there any way of knowing when the next request for exploration data will come? Then i know if its at Colonia or somehwere at the bubble. I need to know when i need to head back, been flying in the core for long enough now.

They seem to come up fairly often the CGs looking for exploration data. No idea when the next one is but there's a lot of general activity to do with thargoids etc so I'd imagine the next request may well come from the bubble rather than colonia. Total guess though.
