Most terrifying game ever made?

It's not a game, just a small demo (last time I saw it) but it is quite poopworthy. Dreadhalls is pretty creepy too. It's amazing how such crappy (relatively) and simple demos are so much more visceral in the Rift, even though you still know it's just a screen!

I used the term game loosely (much like Dear Esther is a game apparently ;) )

thanks for the other suggestion, I will be keeping an eye on all such games once my rift arrives

Have you guys checked out the SCP pages and games?

It's a fan-made universe concerned with cataloguing creepy-as-hell stuff.

There are two games that I know of, also fan-made, which are far creepier than they have any right to be. Both are free.

I recommend you read the wiki descriptions of the SCPs below before watching the youtube videos. It really adds to the atmosphere.

SCP 173 is probably the most well known: http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-173
Game is available here: http://www.scpcbgame.com/
youtube footage here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwXPPvfKWd4

SCP 087 is one of the creepier ones: http://www.scp-wiki.net/scp-087
Fan game is available here: http://www.scpcbgame.com/scp-087-b.html
youtube footage here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9v4lNFJDTkc

SCP 087 in particular I could not continue playing after about 5 minutes.

Agreed, and the thing that really flips it over the edge is the stereo sound. Once you put earphones on your senses start to flip-out telling you things might just be real. Now, just imagine that with holophonic 3D Sound instead of just stereo? For the life of me I don't get why the horror gaming side of things haven't picked up on this yet? They'd make a killing incorporating to the two. That or cause a few heart attacks!

Stick on your earphones on and listen to this then image it with the Rift on.

So the next question is how you make Elite trigger emotions like this! How about these for some suggestions...

Ship / station grave yards with ex-pilots bodies slamming into your cockpit and leaving a smear!?

Rescue missions where you have to find survivors in a corpse filled wreck?

Aliens / space creatures that suddenly appear and disappear in front of you?

All ship systems suddenly die as you approach an odd looking asteroid and then you start to hear gnawing and scratching noises on you ships hull!

I'm shuddering just at the thought of these, but would love it! I so hope FD have the guts to find their dark side!

I think that a number of YouTubers have done some videos of this. It does offer great jump scares but right now, with quality home VR still in its infancy its going to take a while before these "gimmicky" games make way for something with more substance.

Right now though they make for hilarious viewing. :)

True say. I'd imagine a full VR version of something like Silent Hill to be a tad disturbing.
