General / Off-Topic Most Useful and Useless Christmas Present Thread.

So, as per tradition, everyone seems to get something really useful, but incredibly boring, and something so utterly useless for Christmas, so useless, you can't return it, or regift it!

My useless presents was a mug with my name on it.
I have 5 mugs already. And no room for any more. I can't return it, because I don't know where it came from, and I can only regift it to someone else with the same name. Lol

I also got a drone with a camera, but it only has a flight time of 8 minutes.
Not really sure what good that will do me, even if I carry 100s of batteries, I still won't get very far. Lol
I live near a river too, so the likelihood of it running out of juice over the river is extremely high.
Or getting stuck on the roof of all the houses around.

My most useful is probably a battery charger. Lol

Let's hear yours!

My main present was a dvd box set of ‘The Six Million Dollar Man’, which I’ve been eying up for a couple of years now. I’m currently ripping all 40 disks with MakeMKV, encoding them with Handbrake and loading them onto my main NAS for Plex.

Most useless present (and this was a decision me and my mates also go along with)

I got a rolling pin (you know for pastry) and I don't / can't cook anything.

I gave (you'll like this) - A single sock. You never know when you're going to need it.

V2k.

Great series, cool pressie. I had the fortune to see them first time round. Happy Xmas Grey.

Useless? You know, I wouldn't say anything I got this year falls under that category.

I did get something very useful however. For my upcoming YouTube ED series, my grandparents gave me a 2TB HDD. Plenty for my needs. :)

I got a section of black and white creature features on DVD featuring such classics as "The Deadly Mantis" and "Fiend without a face" which is an excellent present. But the most useful one is a small robust magnifying glass on a string I can wear round my neck or clip to a mapcase when doing healthy outdoor things so I can map read without having to find my reading glasses.

I also got a mug with a photo of my favourite chicken Dora on it, useless but I like it anyway.

I got some useful stuff this year. I got a new tool box for the garage. I also got a dewalt cordless drill and orbital sander. I sometimes do wood working projects in the garage.

Didn't really get any useless stuff this time. I got some gaming trinkets for my computer room. Guess you could say that's useless but I like that stuff. I'm 41 but my computer room looks like a 15 kid lives in there.

My sister and 12 yr old niece got me Overwatch and Star Wars battlefront 2 for the PS4. But I don't play games on the ps4. The wife does. She told them that but they got them anyway. They also got me SWbattlefront 2 for the PC. I was confused at first when I saw the same game twice from the same person. Ill keep it for the PC but those others are going back.

That depends on your definition of useful and useless.

Mrs bought me a PS4 Pro plus Elite Dangerous Legendary plus HOTAS One. Absolutely amazing gift and love it - but it's still a bit "useless", 'cos all I'm going to do is "waste" my time on it, LOL. For enjoyment purposes, of course, but that doesn't get the house re-painted or any of that much needed DIY completed, does it now?

Merry Christmas

Hmm my most usefull and useless present at the same is a gift card from an electronic shop that is very well known in germany.
My parents thought "hey he needs gaming equipement!" and so thought i would have use for it.
Just sad that named electronic market just sells end-user products and nothing that i can use. Yes a complete ready pc or laptop i can get there, but not parts to expand my watercooling unit of my selfmade pc^^

The good thing is, i can regift the cards :)

Mrs will have all her time for her now ...

:)

Among other things we got given a few lottery tickets by family. Useful if they end up being worth something otherwise useless (I suppose) but it's the thought that counts.

‘The Six Million Dollar Man’

That takes me back (possibly a bit too far) but is pretty cool.

Sorry; I can't rep you for Lee Majors ATM.........

Most useful: A box of Earl Grey tea bags from my sister in-law.
Most useless: See above - I don't drink Tea.

Lol
I think we're on to a winner with that one!

My girlfriend and I also received a stereotypical shower gel and deodorant set. Both Lynx. Both with aerosols.

My girlfriend has asthma, which is triggered by aerosol sprays. Lol

Atleast that's two of next year's presents sorted. Lol

Got a whole bag of stuff to give to other people!

A word of advice to all;
If you're thinking of buying one of those shower gel and deodorant sets for someone.

Don't.

No one ever likes them. Especially Lynx.

Lol

Most useful: New monitor for pc.
Most useless : A medium sized top. I may have lost some weight round the belly but I have a 48 inch chest which will never change. :D

I tested out my 8 minute flight drone yesterday, and it's extremely useless!

1) I requires a usb charger. Which is ok, but you can't charge it and fly at the same time, so my plan of attaching a power bank to extend its life is thwarted.
2) the camera requires a memory card, which I don't have. It also has no indication it's recording (or not), there's no display on the remote. So you're recording (or not) totally blind.

Best part, is my dad got it for me, to take on holiday.

But because it requires a usb charger, it means I'll need to be somewhere with a power outlet, either a car or a building. Which I'll need to return to every 8 minutes, for approximately 30 minutes while it charges.
It also means, in order to see, and save what I've recorded (or not) I need a laptop with a card reader.

So, when I go on my holiday to Seattle next year, and go for nice long walks in the forests and national parks.
I need to bring my car. And laptop.

:p
