Motion Tracking in VR / Differences to TrackIR

Hi,

using triple-mon with TrackIR atm, deepoon e2 is on it's long shipping trip to germany.
I saw many screenies of ED in VR, showing off bridges of the ships i never was able to see them ingame.
TrackIR seems to be very limited in its range of movement. Or is it the 'game mode'? VR / non-VR?
If it's related to the game mode, why is it limited to such a harsh extend? Why can't we lean in / out a little bit more?
Is there any official comment on that?

As the depoon has no movement tracking, just turning 360°, i'll try a combination with TrackIR.
Will the limits be active, too, in this mode?
Really curious about the experience that's coming with VR...
Fairly sure i'll sell the deepoon shortly after and get me an OSVR.
What i saw and read on tomshardware was really impressive.

Hey Rich, sorry I missed your email mate. It seems you are really limiting yourself with the Deepon. If it's like the Dk2 then the presence and 1:1 scale of everything will look amazing, but part of the experience is being able to move in the world like reality.

A brief example - I'm departing from a surface port in my Python, I can move and lean towards the left window and view the scenery, just like looking out of passenger window in an aircraft. It's those little things that you will realise is sorely needed when you are inside the game in VR.

I used trackIR for many users, the restriction must be down to the product itself, it's the same deal with all games. Am thinking you will eventually regret getting the deepon for a game like ED.

Hi matey,
from what i've read the deepoon is better than the dk2, aside of the tracking. wider fov, better display. and, most important, half the price than a rift.
but as i wrote, this will be just the start into vr for me, pretty sure the osvr is way better for my eyes. doesn't need that horrendous hardware power, and it's just like 350€.

Hey dude, yeah didn't want to put a downer on it, I have been reading up in it. Just worried you may find it lacking due to restricted movement, I'd find it quite frustrating if movement was limited in VR. Still, you'll have a blast compared to your old setup, no doubt about it, enjoy! :)

i looked into extending the deepoon to position tracking ie buying a second hand dk2 sensor or some kinect hack but cant be bothered and ordered a vive, payday plus an obsession with vr is a dangerous thing.

apart from that the deepoon is excellent, i use it in CQC just about every night (CMDR WELLYHEAD) and its stunning. i dont see motion sensing as some big deal in elite, its a seated game.

even when my vive arrives im keeping the deepoon so i have an oculus compatible device.

I have got the Rift DK2 running (via SDK 0.8 and Steam VR), and it has truly made the game (and I have been playing since late 2014!). I am now cautious when standing up in a Sidewinder, as the canopy is only about 6" above my head (but the Asp Explorer and Anaconda have cavernous cockpits)! If Deepoon work out a way of positional tracking you will want it, I guarantee it. For example, if I want to read the side panels I move my head closer, and after a moment it zooms in, making them easier to read.
