Mount Nerverest Gone?

I went to go visit Mount Nerverest on Nervi 3A in the Nervi system. I can't find it. I remember seeing something about planetary rendering changes that removed large mountains. Has this happened to Mount Neverest?

I thought it was still there? Anyway, yes the majority of amazing sites vanished. Probably because a bunch of cmdrs complained about getting stuck in an SRV. I had so many beautiful locations bookmarked, all gone. Glad I had a chance to visit them a few years back.

I believe the height of Mt Neverest was reduced so it's peak was no longer outside of the orbital cruise zone (and thus it was no longer possible to drive an SRV off the top and into space), but I thought the mountain itself was still there.

If, by any chance, you happen to be looking for cool places to drive an SRV off of tho' then I have a thread over here which might interest you!

Sorry to repeat myself(over the years) but unfortunately, whether through necessity(game breaking or bad glitch), no choice(proc gen changes) or bad decisions, FD have removed all(nearly) the quirkier elements of this brilliant game.

Is there any merit in getting the mod's to re-open that thread so we can do a whistlestop tour of those locations and add a new column to the sheet in the OP to say which one's are still present in ED Beyond?

Or do you not have the enthusiasm to do that? (which I could quite understand).

Alternatively I guess I could start a new thread called BEYOND WONDERS (assuming there are any :p).

Bit hard to see as it's nighttime on Nervi 3A right now, but the mountain is still there. The peak is about 10km below the orbital drop zone.

Go for it :)
I think a "New Wonders" would be brilliant !!!
(and ,if you wish ,you can add a link to that thread showing how things were ? especially that wonderful Monolith :) )

you can also land a small ship near the top now taking away half the challenge of the original

of course you can ignore that and start from the bottom :)

Me too. Elite is a much less interesting game to explore now than it used to be, the planetary terrain is much more homogenized now. It's part of why I don't play much anymore. Hopefully the Q4 update can bring some of that interest back to exploration for me.

Sounds like someone is a fan of the space wolves in W40K, their home base ( the aett) is a mountain so large it’s tip is ‘in space’

I'm at the mountain (lighting is nearly perfect right now and will probably be good for another day, maybe two.)

Im planning my route and researching ways to tackle it, hence stumbling across this thread.

I never visited the mountain before the changes, so I don't know if it's different or not, but I did hear that the mountain was the same height, but they'd moved the gravity cut-off up - in any case, I've spent some time flying to certain points and practicing little sections at a time (as I have no scout other than myself) and it seems the main effects of the changes were to debug the mountain, because my ship's not getting stuck, it drops out of supercruise fine at the highest points, and you can land anywhere with suitable terrain. The SRV too, performs as expected.

As I said, I don't know if it's lower or not, but I can say for sure it remains a formidable and impressive obstacle! If you have been put off by tales of the nerfed mountain, fear not! It's a beast alright!

Where is it located I’m up for some mountaineering later.
It would be nice if FD could bring back some of the more extreme landscapes, realistic or not they were an awesome sight.

Thanks for the thread bump, been meaning to head out there and check it out in VR.

Ah! I was feeling guilty about the necro - I feel better to know at least one person will benefit from the post!

I'm on my run now, I used the same starting plateau as the Brocast did when Greytest won it (22.83-odd° North, 111.08-odd° East) - crossing the plateau to the base of the first proper ascent took me nearly an hour, I'm at the top of the first ascent now, but I am down in terrain and can't see which way I need to head - I know the broad heading, but not exactly what I need to do to get out from where I am - this after numerous low-level flyby's in my DBX (I tried to plan it from as close to SRV view as I could, as I knew overhead view wouldn't help me on the ground). If you're going for it solo, you definitely need to plan the route, and even then, it's HARD! External camera helps to a point, but only gets you so far!

I'm an old flatlander here, and the view from the top is awesome - I can't even imagine how it's gonna look in VR!

:edits: @cheesenbiscuits - it's Nervi System, the moon you want is 3A, and my exact co-ordinates for the base camp are 22.8363°N, 111.0878°E - if you're just flying for a look-around, you won't need the co-ordinates, when it's in daylight you can see it from orbit.

I believe it is the most latter of what you've stated.

Was nice taking the Asp out for a spin, haven't flown one in a while. The area is truly stunning, the sheer scale in VR is immense.

Thanks for sharing that! I'm a little further on now, but stuck again! One thing I have noticed is the rocks are rich in the materials for premium hull repairs and refuels (chromium, Mercury, manganese, tungsten plus a few others) - if you're planning an assault and are low on those, a little prospecting is worth the time, too.
